Album Notes

Their music has been described as foot stompin, rockin, rustic roots, country, folk and blues. They are The Sumner Brothers. Having burned up nearly every room and concert hall in British Columbia, the brothers have created a legion of fans and a reputation that exceeds their native province. Their original songs have them being lauded as being “in the upper echelon of Vancouver song writers.” Their show mixes brotherly charm, amazing homegrown gospel/roots/alt-country/folk songs, and a delivery that calls to mind a young Elvis and Cash.

“The Sumner Brothers are, in my opinion, the most talented band Vancouver (if not Canada) has seen in a long time. Their sound is so pure, so honest, and so good. Seeing them live is a revelation; listening to their recordings is a profound experience. What they have to offer is more than entertainment-it’s medicine.” “They are my new favorite band.”

“Their music is about light, though it is not afraid to explore the dark. Their music is about hope, but it does not ignore despair. It’s a mournful Johnny Cash, a repentant Willie Nelson, a reflective Stompin Tom. It’s the power of boozy sincerity and hopped-up honesty, and that, brothers and sisters, I can get behind.”

“Stripped down old time feel it in my bones and look death in the eye kind of music. The Sumner Brothers CD “In the Garage” saved me. This CD will party with you, fight beside you to the death, dig you a grave, and sing you a heartbreaker while everyone sniffs in the falling autumn leaves.”

Without a doubt this is the best country-folk album I own. The first time I heard the Sumner Brothers (on myspace) they instantly caught my attention and I had to order the CD. Most of the times after such an experience, the actual album is a bit of a disappointment, but not with this one.....it's so straight from the heart and really touched my soul....I love it!
