More people need to know about this album....

Paul Sumner's album A World Of Horses is a lost treasure from the glorious early seventies... The only reason it's not in your vinyl collection ahead of Supertramp, Ziggy Stardust and the Who is that it seems the Master tapes were lost in the baggage retrieval at Heathrow, only emerging in time to see Lennon's great grandchildren graduate and the unwrinkled Mr Bowie contemplating retirement.
Sumner's got one of those voices that's not just pro but well above the pro average... I mean, picture the aforementioned Bowie and you get the idea. He pushes the frontiers but always carries it off in brilliant taste. I'm seriously brassed I never discovered this album thirty years ago. Damn that meddling Scots engineer from the Enterprise! I'm sure it was his doing...
...And production values? The production values! I haven't heard a warm acoustic guitar like that since... well, a long, long time ago. Since they still recorded on tape.
There are several folk-like contemplative passages I wish I could describe, but you have to hear them to know what's perking my ears.
The lyrics are a satisfying and rich meal; more than pleasing and with enough to digest for later. This one will never shift from your disc rack to the midden heap, I give my word.
What else does the discerning music fan get in there for value? A World Of Horses is authentic vintage tone: rhodes through a grubby guitar amp, Brit-funk fuzz guitars, mellotron and moog. Soaring vocals. Bold lead-lines and strange new worlds to find: as if the Beatles were still trucking.
None of those tacky synth samples from the eighties or nineties.
However this isn't all retro-retro. This is fresh like a hand picked apple in Autumn. It brings the satisfaction that comes when you discover the way your forefathers lived...
...and it brings the newness you feel when you find it still all works.
Check out Sumner's samples and then buy the album.
It's addictive; thank me later.
