From the enigmatic experimental Japanese label electr-ohm, Inami creates a work that runs from deep darkhop to vibrating ambient instrumentals. The richness of many of the pieces is overwhelming, and it's hard get across even the complexity of what happens in just one of these Inami works, much less the entire disc. Pieces ring with drama, or nostalgia through old sounds. A patchwork of faded, vintage snippets, with trumpet-like winds carressing All sorts of elements come into view. Then heavy beats come in, punctuated by mellowtron sounds, odd voices talking in the background. You can tell that Inami is very much a live performer, probably mixing laptop creations with turntables and odd, droning ambience in the background. Elements of Jazz, IDM, and heavy experimental zones. Hard to explain, excellent to listen to.

Sunao Inami is bordering on genius. I hadn't actually heard of him before listening to this CD but a friend said to me "He's similar to Mimetic. You'll love his stuff". There are similarities certainly, but there is something altogether a little more sinister here.
"Delayed" starts slowly, with a dark almost oppressive sound in "M1_1/5", but soon leads in to the more beat driven side, some beats coming from the very talented Slacknote. There are some very surprising twists also evident in "Delayed". Example, I was sat listening to this whilst doing something else and getting quite used to the quiet, brooding atmospheric sounds and the next thing... wait...is that a pneumatic drill he's sampled? No way! Sunao has sampled live sounds from his direct environment and, somewhat strangely, it works very well even if they do crop up in the most unexpected of places.
This release has so much going on that it is hard to not sit up and pay attention. Stand out tracks for me include "M6_v5++", "2/19/04_rec_2_v5" and "M2_12/19_edit3". If you like electronica with a touch of sinister noise, broken beats and strange atmospherics - this is most definitely for you. As I said before, this is bordering on genius. Very highly recommended and someone to keep an eye on in the future.

"DELAYED" by Sunao Inami is the latest in a strong line of releases on his own electr-ohm label, established about 3 years ago.
Sunao Inami's music's main strength lies in repetition, but where the "poison" lies is different every time: electronics, glitch, techno, noise, ambient; the result of recent years of progression, digression and collaboration from which he's gained impetus, irritation and motivation. By soaking up these sensations, he has arrived at his most recent sound.
Inami embraces the thrill of improvisation on the PowerbookG4 and the feeling of tension and composition from the newest DSP recording methods and any and every editing process.
For "Delayed" he used a Waldorf synth for hardware, and mainly Reaktor4, Live, Spark, Logic6 and Protools for software. Otherwise spoons and other kitchen utensils.
Future plans include collaborations with American and European musicians, who have previously contributed audio fragments to Inami's many other projects via his busy ftp server.
