Album Notes

Sunday is the day when dead dreams were reborn. Shoes always were and still remain the most basic of delivery systems. This Side of Heaven, the fourth project offered by the group Sunday Shoes, delivers 12 well-crafted songs that instill hope, lift the spirit, and point us home.

Sunday Shoes is what happened when the LA-based song writing team of Danny Van and Daniel Epp got tired of scratching and clawing their way into publishers catalogues, writing fictitious songs for people they really didn't know.

Sunday Shoes is what happened when two guys who love rock, blues, and story songs sat down on the front porch with a couple of vintage Martins and started writing theirs.

Sunday Shoes is what happens when two "Prodigal Sons" come limping home and are swept up in the strong and loving arms of a heavenly father who rather than condemning them, throws them a party.

Sunday Shoes is what happens when you try to create the perfect "Christian song" and instead write a blues-rock tune called "Been There Done That". The slice of life lyric from their debut album, Dancin' On The Edge, includes the story a guy in a bathroom stall with a vile of coke, who hears a still small voice whispering, "You don't have to live like this anymore."

Sunday Shoes is what is happening now. It's the continuing story of two guys who meet the brother they never had and take their music and newly found faith and hit the road. Who somewhere along the way, get adopted by Celebrate Recovery, an international faith-based recovery organization. Founded by a recovered functional alcoholic John Baker, from Saddleback Church, CR is a group of "wounded healers" who have helped thousands of people of all ages struggling with their own hurts, hang-ups, and habits. As a result of their partnership with this steadily growing group, Sunday Shoes has had to put on their traveling shoes. Over the past seven years, Danny and Dan have had the time of their lives performing their roots-rock style of music and sharing the story of their recovery at over 300 concert events, conferences, and churches across the U.S.

According to Danny Van, the bands gravel-voiced front man, "Every time we try to figure God out we're wrong. Now we just show up, get out of the way, and let him do his thing." Judging from the feedback from recent concert goers, that includes people getting encouraged..."They made me feel the joy of the Lord on a down day"..."God is changing lives one moment at a time through their ministry. He has changed mine!"...

This CD is real and has a lot of heart. The musical performances are FAB! Great guitar work especially for a Christian CD. The message seems to be the main thing, as in most Christian CD’s but these guys didn’t forget about the music. They have a wonder sense of melody. The vocals are distinctive and sung with conviction and the backing vocals seem perfectly placed. I liked all the songs on the CD but a few that stand out are This Side of Heaven, the 1st track, you just gotta dance to this one. Send Me, Pastor Rick Warren does an intro on this one that is very cool. Nothing Wasted, very emotional song. I recommend this CD. I think you’ll like it.
