CDBABY.COM EDITOR'S PICK --
TOP KIDS/FAMILY: CHILDREN'S POP

"C'mon an' Swing in my Tree!" is a quality recording of twelve original children's songs by The Sunflowers packaged in a charming fourteen page board book illustrated by top children's artist Giselle Potter.

Gifted storyteller and singer Terri Taylor Fontaine is the groups' lead vocalist, and her husband, Michael, writes the songs, sings backup, and plays guitar.

Terri and Michael's credits range from appearing on Broadway, network TV series, variety shows, and movies for television, to performing on theatre and variety stages all over the United States and in six foreign countries. In recent years, they've been performing Americana music with their band, True West, but Terri and Michael are the parents of two children, so it's only natural that they have gravitated to kid's music. Bob Stain, founder of the world famous Ice House in the Los Angeles area says Terri and Michael "...are serious about having fun" and "...they put the entertainment in the entertainment business."

Jon Walmsley produced the CD with Michael. Jon, whom you'll remember as the musical brother Jason on The Waltons TV series, is thirty-year veteran of the music business in Los Angeles and Nashville. He plays every instrument he keeps in his closet on this album.

The CD is enclosed in a colorful board book with eight illustrations by Giselle Potter, who is best known for her many children's books, including "The Big Box" with Toni Morrison, the delightful "Quinton Fenton Herter III," and her own autobiographical books, "The Year I Didn't Go to School" and "Chloe's Birthday...and Me." Giselle is also frequently published in The New Yorker Magazine and The New York Times.

Great CD -- Great Book!
author: Jan Miller -- Parent
So often a kid's album has music children like, but before long it unfortunately becomes music parents learn to loath. Let's face it -- most children’s music is simplistic, repetitive, and not written for a parents' ears. Not so with this fantastic album by The Sunflowers. This is music that I can get into and enjoy listening to with my kids. The songs remind me of some of my parent's favorites and my favorites when I was a kid... songs by groups like The Mamas and the Papas, The Turtles and the Byrds, and singer-songwriters like Arlo Guthrie and Roger Miller. The lead vocalist makes me think of singers like Patsy Cline or Rosemary Clooney at one moment and Dusty Springfield or Lulu at another. The book that the CD comes in is without question the best package for a CD I've ever seen. The artwork is just wonderful! My son carries the book around with him, and asks my husband and me to read it with him often. Great CD -- great book!

Amazing. Reccomended for EVERYONE!

I heard the CD and instantly bought it for my friends with kids... and they LOVE it. I went over to one friend's house in particular and the mother said, "it's the only CD she (her daughter) listens to!" and then her husband started singing the songs. Husbands singing? Yeah, It's that good! Catchy, amusing, original and great listening for ALL ages.
