"Hey, Didn't the Beatles Sing About a Submarine?"
So wrote Bill Yardley of the New York Times, upon hearing "Submarine Town" off of Superbald I, currently being used by Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell as a "Save the Subase" rally cry in southeastern CT, where the Pentagon is threatening to close the historic submarine base there. Yardley went on to call the track "2 minutes and 27 seconds of guitar shimmer and driving drums" whose "tune is catchy, with subtle effects that evoke the deep-sea plunge of a submarine."
"Superbald I... Drives like a '74 Cadillac"
Ben Johnson of the New London Day wrote of Superbald I: "Mixing energetic surf and punk riffs with a pop sensibility, the band has completed a fun record that drives like a 1974 Cadillac. Every sound is crisp, from the vocals to the ride cymbal." Superbald plays "a solid list of punk and surf-inspired pop tunes that sound great live and on record."
So... somewhere between a submarine and a '74 Cadillac lies the sound of Superbald.
Superbald is a rock trio based out of New London county, CT. Like many bands out there who aren't selling their souls to "make it", Superbald is loath to pick a commercially identifiable 'genre' to define its style. Suffice to say, Superbald blends key elements it feels are essential to the live rock experience- impeccable riffs and rhythms, strong melodies, and fierce energy.
All longtime friends, guitarist/vocalist Ben Parent, drummer Trevor Chandonnait, and bassist/vocalist Steve Elci each bring to the band their own unique distillation of all things rock.
Superbald I is already generating attention regionally and nationally.
"In short- a fine first effort."
So says Brian LaRue of the New Haven Advocate, adding: "There's a long and sacred history in Connecticut of bands that play up-tempo, stripped-down, garage-y power-pop, and on this debut Superbald establishes itself a keeper of the tradition. The bands particular brand incorporates crisp drumming, twangy-gritty guitar riffs, and a fistful of driving surf-rock leanings."

Nicel Clean fun!
author: Dan Beach
These guys have IT. They sound like early REM with Graham Parker singing, yet it all sounds original. Not too many Cliches and that bass is smackin'
These guys sound like they're having fun. The biggest plus for a DJ like me is that there is no cursing! Not that I've heard yet, they're clean songs like from Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochrane(does anybody know who these men were?)
Waiting for Superbald II
