Album Notes

Steve Deaton (Super Nice Guy) was reared in Newton County, Mississippi, where he found his most important musical influences. As a child, Steve accompanied his parents to the hootenanny--a tomato-swapping, pickin' & grinnin' musical get-together at a man's chicken farm in Conehatta. His father played the guitar and banjo, and his mother would join in occasionally on the piano for a gospel duet. To complete Steve's musical education, his older brother, with whom he shared a room, was bringing home Steely Dan and Pink Floyd to spin on the turntable.

For the past 12 years, Steve has been performing throughout the Southeast with various projects--from prog-rocking Bob Q Bob, to noise-layering Flat Stanley, to quirky pop-hopping Handtruck. Finally, after years of rebelling against it, Steve is once again embracing his Newton County musical heritage. Starting with his 1997 release Super Nice Guy, Steve began to rediscover his roots, while still displaying all the musical influences he has picked up along the way.

Currently, Steve is performing with the honky-tonkin' band Buffalo Nickel, who have recently been showcased at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York and South by Southwest in Austin. Also, Steve is performing and recording solo. His latest release No.1 demonstrates the wide range of his musical affinities--from Ernest Tubb to Tom Waits to Red House Painters.

Fantastic disc-- songs range on topics and feel, but are cohesive. What a great voice, and a fine picker to boot. BUY it--don't be silly.
