Album Notes

The Supertones, a New York City-based instrumental quartet, have been playing around NYC for the past ten years at places like The Greatest Bar on Earth, Luna Lounge, Wetlands, The Rodeo Bar, Manitoba's and Don Hill's, and recently added a semi-annual tour of Puerto Rico to their performance schedule. The Supertones compositions are also featured in reknowned surf documentarist, Bud Browne's recent movies including Surfing in the 50s, Cavalcade of Surf and Locked In. So belly up to the whammy bar and enjoy The Supertones!

"We've sung the praises of The Supertones before, and now here's an ideal chance for any of you yet to be convinced to sample their earlier albums The Wet Side and Ride The Wild Twang, The Supertones Are Go! is a 32 track compilation of remarkable quality. It's not just the playing, or indeed the strong material, but the sympathetically appropriate range of sounds they use on each track. These guys clearly care about capturing the sounds of the '60s, and they do it really well. If you wish The Ventures had stuck to covers or if The Challengers had been a touch more adventurous, then you're going to love this. On the other hand, if you fear that an album full of familiar titles will lack interest then think again. The arrangements are not exact copies and the feel generated by the band is pure joy, an experience I'd recommend to all RI fans. This is a classy album you will play right through over and over again."

Alan Taylor, Pipeline #51, Surrey, UK, Spring 2001
