Album Notes

From Toronto, ON. Canada, Sylvia Niewinski, vocals, John Pacheco, drums, George E. Vee, guitar, Brad Whetham, bass, have come together to bring a fresh new sound to modern Hard Rock. Their music built on a strong driving rhythm section, pulled together by melodic guitar hooks, showcasing a powerful yet sensitive vocal styling of Sylvia Niewinski to complete a tight group with unique musical chemistry.

Rich in ambient textures and dark moods, the music travels through a broad spectrum of human nature, realism and hope. This includes a remake of "Mad World", by Tears for Fears.

Influences ranging from Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Tool, to Van Halen, Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath. Comparisons have been made to the likes of Evanescence, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and a heavier version of Blondie.

The band started in 2000 as a writing project for John and George. This eventually lead to bringing Sylvia on board taking the band to the next step, recording the 3-song demo. This brought the band to record what is now known as the self-produced Surface Underground CD. The project was completed with the addition of Brad.

Throughout their careers John, George, Sylvia and Brad, each have worked with renowned artists and producers, including Canada's First Lady of Guitar Liona Boyd, punk legend Art Bergman, Juno nominee guitarist Pavlo, and world class producer Arnold Lanni.

They are now ready to present the world with the upcoming release of their first video single "Mad World", directed by Yorgo Karakostas, Kolossos Entertainment.

Gut-wrenching
author: Ollie Bourque
Gut-wrenching, overdriven, pulsing drums, rhythms and harmonies. Strong lyrics, (lyric sheet included) and vocals that just don't quit. Hypnotic at times. Thought-provoking. Serious talent here, in all aspects.

I've heard alot of new artists and NONE of them compare to Surface Underground. This CD is melodic yet heavy, in all the right places. The lyrics are well written, as is the music. Sylvia has the perfect voice to compliment the band's sound. This band knows their shit and you can tell even after only a few seconds into the CD. Their cover of Tears For Fears' Mad World is one of my favorites, as is The Weather and Come With Me. Pick up this CD and help support this great band! You WON'T be disappointed!
