Album Notes

Sur Pacífico was born in 1998 after the encounter of Marcos Ribas and Ismael Cortez at a Guitar Craft residential course at Quilpue city, Chile. Soon Paulette Joui joins with the cello to complete the first lineup of the band.

In search of experimenting and new sonority the guitarist Alan Reale and the tabla player and percussionist Juan Gronemeyer joins the group during 2000.

In 2002 Sur Pacífico records their first CD called "In the Beginning", which has received very good reviews at a national and international scale. One of the pieces from this CD has been included in the various artists compilation realised by Inner Knot label called "The Plague of Crafty Guitarists" available at DGM (Discipline Global Mobile).

"The sound of this album has an exellent texture of acoustics instruments, like a soft voyage for the sea, the fusion of the simphonic music and some electric instruments is a beauty show of the capacity of the musicans to use all elments to express a feel with the music.
The contrast of the cello and the guitar is something that everybody has to listen once in the life.
I like the first theme en el principio that have a soft sound that make the sensation of navigate in the music, something like close the eyes and be moved by the soft sound of a sthetic use of the music."
5 stars at Prog Archives

In 2004 the group again experiences a change in its line up; this time going back to the original trio format.

Their new CD is almost ready to be available at this site.

REVIEWS

thought provoking, well produced and well played

It isn’t jazz, it isn’t pop, it isn’t a lot of thing. I would almost describe it as classical but even that doesn’t really describe this thought provoking, well produced and well played CD. No one instrument takes priority over any of the others and every track is equally as good. I can listen to this CD from beginning to end without wanting to change it, definitely not background music.
