Album Notes

From their 1999 inception, Surrender Dorothy, a five-piece band from Phoenix, gathered a loyal following. The group performed at the final Lilith Fair music festival in the summer of 1999. (The best part was Clara’s vocal performance that night at the finale, with Sarah McLachlan and Sheryl Crow singing backup.)

Playing the acoustic guitar, Clara George’s vocals are powerful and emotional. Behind her are true musicians with a love for what they do: Whitney Hanson on guitars, Laura Sawosko on keyboards, Dante Fiorenza on bass, and Brandon Frazier on drums.

Sadly, the band broke up, after a short but successful run, in 2001. Members of the band pursued other projects but stayed in touch. They never released a CD, but recorded a collection of nine songs. This CD release marks the first time that these songs have been available to the public. Compared to the likes of The Cranberries, The Sundays, and 10,000 Maniacs, Surrender Dorothy’s music takes one back to the fresh and amazing sound of the 1990s. This release presents a collection of pop songs, well-written lyrics and their signature catchy turns of phrase. The songs are at times confident and playful, at times vulnerable, but always powerful.

Surrender Dorothy is planning a reunion show to take place in Phoenix in the near future. Check www.myspace.com/surrenderdorothytribute.com for details

I was really sad that this band didn't stay together. However, it's a great CD and I recommend it to anyone who likes Alanis, Natalie, and Sarah. In her own right though, Clara's voice has a clara-ty (hehe) that is as clear as a church bell on a winter morning. Yeah, that's it. Anyway, these gals are great and I hope they get back together. Hi Whit! Love you.
