Album Notes

Besides being a songwriter and lyricist, Susan spent years writing scores for TV and film, writing main titles and lyrics. The songs gathered here are personal, humorous, and heartwarming. Her music is jazz influenced (having gone to Berklee) yet pop, soul, and even folk inspired as well.

REVIEWS

"Talk To Somebody" Solid songwriting, lovely understated delivery

I like a good lyric and an honest singer that serves the lyric and the tune. Susan's songwriting grew on me with each repeated listening, and the subtle background vocals were a joy to discover. This is a crossover recording, one of the tunes would live happily on an Alison Krauss record and another has Peter Gabriel style treatment. Of course, she is clearly influenced by Fagen and Mitchell, evident in the horn arrangements and style. I loved those records, and I can't wait to hear more from Marder.

Straight from the heart and mind. Thoughtful and honest, entirely relevant, I find that Susan's maturity makes each tune sparkle. Frankly, any song writer this good should have quite the following soon. Nicely crafted productions, just tight enough to provide supporting structure, but her voice carries the day in each song. Well done and where's the rest? I need more!
