The music business has always been challenging
for females in the industry, even in South Louisiana. Call her a survivor or just a kick-ass musician and singer, but this lady has earned her trophy in the Baton Rouge Music Hall of Fame. Susan Owens started singing and playing in Baton Rouge in the 70's. Keenly intuitive and highly intelligent, she has by far the best and most extensive song list in the city. Like her talent, she evolves her music continually and plays a broad spectrum of genres. From Alternative to Zydeco, there's nothing this lady can't play and sing. Her band, Filagree has some of the most seasoned musicians in the Capitol City in it. Drummer, Eddy Rinaudo is hands-down the best drummer in South Louisiana. Lead guitarist, Dan Robillard tears up the slide like it's nobody's business and bass guitarist, Rob Payer balances the group with his high energy performance and right-on rhythm. Harmonies are always solid, but more than anything else, this band just knows how to nurture a crowd....leave it to a woman to make sure of that! Karen Dean Booking Agent

a ready-for-prim time performer in complete command of her repertoire
author: R. U. Eddy Gris Gris Rouge
Baton Rouge songbird Susan Owens has had a chameleon-like musical career, emerging in the late 7o’s as a kind of new-look folkie, and gradually growing into a masterful interpreter of the blues, Cajun funk and rockin’ r&b. Coupled with a warm and friendly stage presence, she charmed audiences with her sweet, emotive voice and energetic live performances. Flash forward to 2006 and she’s emerged with her first CD, chock full of supporting performances by an impressive range of well known song-writers, singers and session players. Armed with a top-flight studio band and a thoroughly glamorous new look, the once earthy hippie has emerged as a ready-for-prim time performer in complete command of her repertoire. Featured players on this disc include bassist Doug Brouseau, drummer Floyd Saizon, legendary saxophonist Sed Sedlack, super-flutist Betsy “The Jazz Nurse” Braud and multi instrumentalist Bill Guess on clarinet. Among the highlights of Tanging the Hump’s 12 songs is a duet with world-class singer Duke Bardwell, who joins Owens on “Since I Fell For You.” Recorded at Johnny Palazzotto’s Main Street Studio, Tanging is a satisfying experience in every sense of the word. Here’s hoping Owens continues to record and join her talent with others.
