Album Notes

Sushalini is the latest musical incarnation for Australian singer/songwriter and producer, Andrew BernSousa.

Sushalini’s debut album SHAZAAM!!, features 13 tracks that combine Beck’s alt-rock electronica, the Pixies’ melodic snarl, My Bloody Valentine’s frenzy and The Flaming Lips’ off-kilter visions. Infectious melodies and unusual lyrics are delivered in Andrew’s laidback vocal style, backed by a melange of erratic guitars, squelching synthesizers and driving beats.

Recorded over a 6-month period in 2006 at his home studio in east London, Andrew wrote and arranged the songs as well as playing most of the instruments featured on the self-produced album.

A regular around Perth’s (Australia) scene in the 1990s, Andrew performed solo and in various bands before setting up his own label, Aquamudvuv Music, which released music by Australian bands like Sodastream, Tucker B's and O! as well as Conor Oberst’s first outing as Bright Eyes. (“Racing Towards the New / Go Find Yourself a Dry Place” split 7” single with Andrew’s band Squadcar 96) After a decade of touring, promoting and recording, Andrew left Australia and set up base in the UK.

To promote SHAZAAM!!, Sushalini are currently playing shows around the UK. On bass is Jerome Mazandarani who toured Australia and the UK with Aussie favourites Yummy Fur. Filmmaker Rachael BernSousa provides backing vocals and live visuals compiled from a mixture of home video and found footage. Andrew sings, plays guitar, and coaxes beats, samples and loops from his laptop.
