Album Notes

Originally from New Hampshire, Susie moved to Texas in 1984 and currently resides in Horseshoe Bay with her husband, Gene, and their two sons. Her singing career began at the age of 7 in church and school choirs. When 12, she received a pawn shop guitar as a gift and began learning the basics from a family friend. Before too long, she was accompanying herself in talent shows. A couple of years later, her father built a Heathkit organ and she enrolled in organ lessons.

Her musical influences include pop and country legends Carly Simon, Stevie Nicks, Olivia Newton-John, June Carter-Cash, Carol King, and Emmylou Harris. The Beatles, Steely Dan, The Eagles, Foreigner, and Heart rank among her favorite bands. More recently, Texas singer-songwriter Shake Russell has been a mentor, and appears as a guest artist on both "Kalypso" and the upcoming "Naked Dreams" album, the latter of which also features a cowrite with Shake. Nashville singer-songwriter, Buzz Cason, who penned the megahit "Everlasting Love," has also been of tremendous help to Susie in recent years. While most of the songs on "Naked Dreams" are original tunes, the album does include two of Buzz's newest songs.

Returning to her rock and roll roots, Susie's most recent project, Naked Dreams, is an eclectic collection of 12 original songs that weaves together a beautiful, cross-genre tapestry of folk, country, blues, hard rock, and soft rock. Whether it be a soft, sweet love song, a heartbreaking tale of unrequited love, or a raw, explosive outburst of emotion, the album spans the gamut of musical and lyrical themes, and is sure to sate the musical thirst of the most avid aficionados.

Susie’s debut album, Kalypso, is a diverse collection of songs that beautifully showcase her unique vocal style and song-writing ability. Best described as “world folk,” Susie’s music is a fusion of genres that embrace folk, pop-rock, and country. Her original compositions are deeply personal, boldly imaginative, and disturbingly provocative. Delving into the realms of love, fantasy, erotica, and mysticism, Susie breathes passion and beauty into each of her songs. The versatility of her vocal style allows her to sing like an angel—or a seductress. From sweet and ethereal to rich and emotive, the euphonic tenor of Susie’s voice is sure to please the ear and pull on the heartstrings.

In performance, Susie’s repertoire includes originals, along with obscure and popular cover songs. She has performed in venues across Texas, New Mexico, Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York.

A Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Texas-San Antonio, Susie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and is currently pursuing a Master's degree at the Middlebury College Bread Loaf School of English in Middlebury, Vermont. She also writes poetry and is working on a novel. A former marathon runner, Susie continues to make running an essential part of her daily routine.
