Album Notes

Finally - the breathlessly awaited second Old Timey recording from Suzanne and Jim. "SongChasers" is a tour through nearly a century of Americana Roots Music...rare 19th century popular songs that appeared in early 20th century Hillbilly recordings; a country blues from Ma Rainey covered by the Carter Family (here belted out by Suzanne); a Kentucky ballad; a previously unrecorded fragment of a Louvin Brothers song (with a new verse added by our intrepid duo); a dazzling clawhammer banjo medley; all in all, a bakers dozen plus one of old timey songs sure to please everyone.

The Musicians...
Suzanne Jaroszynski is rapidly gaining a national reputation as a song stylist. Her rich, powerful voice is equally suited to sentimental ballads and old time gospel shouters. Suzanne is a repeat first place winner in the vocal competition at the prestigious Mt Airy North Carolina Fiddlers Convention singing her unaccompanied arrangement of Little Carpenter. Her solid rhythm guitar provides a firm foundation for the duo's sound.

For nearly 30 years Jim Hale has been at the forefront of the claw hammer banjo revival. His command of touch, tone, and timing creates a lyrical background for the singing and punches through on instrumental solos.

Having been indoctrinated to old time music by my late husband, I feel qualified to state unequivocably that this is one of the very best collections of old time music I have ever heard, and the ultimate example of clawhammer banjo and old time singing!
