Album Notes

"Big Noise" by Germany's premiere vocalist, Susanne Vogt, is an affectionate tribute to her endearing connection with New York City. With this CD, Susanne transforms her talent as a student of her Big Apple influences into lessons for aspiring performers.

In contrast to her previous intimate duo recording, "When I've got the Moon" with Woody Mann, Susanne obviously relishes the support of her larger ensemble. "Big Noise" takes you around a musical circle opening with the help of Klaus Wenderoth's funky organ solo on "Coffee" and ending with a simple rendering of a swaying melody, "Lullaby for Lora."

"Day by day
Trying to shake you of my memory
But at night
You creep into my dreams."

Susanne's lyrics are emblematic of a listener's experience after hearing her music. Subtly, by design, her mixture of cleverly crafted arrangements, as with "No Time" juxtaposed against simple vocal portraits as with Strayhorn's "Lush Life" are what draws you back again and again.

In musical support are two world class guitarists; New York City's Woody Mann, who is a frequent collaborator with Susanne, and Jurgen Fromm, with his many tasty solos throughout. This versatile band is rounded out with strong performances from drummer Dirk Osterberg, percussionist Mathias Reuter, bassist Michael Rosenthal and Peter Zinngrebe on woodwinds. But it is the free flowing style of Susanne's vocals that truly makes "Big Noise," Big Fun.

Drawing from her New York connections, Susanne sings a number of songs written by Jeff Meyer, who lives in the city-justifiably riddled with complex topics. The songs nonetheless, have simple messages of seasons, affection, and vices. Whether, a resident of New York, or not, the material exemplifies the worldly urges, senses, and desires we all explore.

The journey through the lyrics Susanne sings; from a city wounded, "Following dreams is not what used to be," to the promise of tomorrow, "Follow me through days of heaven," is indeed the essence of the musical spirit befitting New York and her fans- a gift from across the ocean from Susanne Vogt.
