Album Notes

“Swamiji is like a ever-flowing sparkling waterfall of Mother Sruti’s Sacred words” - Akasha Caitanya (yoga teacher and Vedanta student)

Swami Vagishananda is a senior disciple of Parama Pujya Shree Swami Dayananda Saraswati and has been studying and teaching Vedanta and Vedic Chanting for the past 30 years.

When Swamiji was in his teens he became fascinated with mystical poetry and non-dual philosophies. Upon being accepted to a course of study with Swami Dayananda Saraswati in 1975 at the age of 19, he left college and went to India. He graduated from a 3-year residential course in Vedanta Sanskrit and Vedic chanting. During this period he studied and practiced Sri Rudra Prasnam (the most exalted Vedic prayer) and the main Vedic Suktas, Mantras, and Upanishads in the traditional manner under Shree Swami Paramarthananda, a fellow student and master of Vedic Chanting.

He was a staff member in four subsequent 3-year courses taught by Shree Swami Dayananda in the United States and India. During these courses he taught Vedic chanting to the resident students. Serving his teacher in many and varied ways he continued studying and teaching Sanskrit and advanced Vedanta texts. In his 'purvashrama' (student stage) of life, he was known as “Brahmachari Prabhu Chaitanya”. He was initiated into Sannyaasa Renunciation, on the Banks of the Gangaa river in Rishikesh, India, on February 12, 1991.

Among Sri Swamiji’s varied teaching positions are those he has held at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, in Saylorsburg, PA. (where he also taught the Vedic Heritage program for children) and Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, Coimbatore, India. Sri Swamiji taught at the Arsha Vidya Kendra Center for Vedantic study in Bangalore, India, and the Sandeepani West Ashram, Piercy, California.

Today, Swami Vagishananda holds classes and retreats throughout the world, using the traditional methodology called Sampradaya. Swamiji unlocks the teachings of Vedanta, removing the veil of Self ignorance and error which is the fundamental cause of all human suffering.

A Qualified Teacher
author: Donna Murray

If you have found your way here, then you have been blessed, because you have discovered the real thing – a qualified teacher of the Sannyasi order – a renunciate monk dedicated wholly towards the highest summit of devotion to the Lord. Chanting a mantra invokes the blessing of The Rishi of that ancient prayer, so proper pronunciation and intonation is extremely important. Expressed in a sublimely sweet voice, Swami Vagishananda Saraswati’s chanting is faithful to Vedic-Sanskrit chanting lineage traditions , invoking devotion that touches the heart.

The devotion, knowledge and conviction with which Swami Vagishananda Saraswati speaks, has helped me in my own practice and loving devotion to the Beloved. The explanations and repetitions bring about such a deep feeling of God I had not known. Thank you for this blessing!

A gift and a blessing. I feel myself lightening with each syllable. There is a centerdness in each word, in each utterance. It is like hearing clearness.
