Bringing back the Swamp Music. SMP is a Vancouver Island Collective of professionals, dreamers, flop house heroes and professional dreamers with a love for Blues, Southern Roots Rock and Swamp Pop.
Starting from the grass roots of "no collar" workers putting on shows for charity it has gathered interest and support from the island musical community. Many artists join in the rotational lineup to enact change in the world as well as find work for local artists and promote the Blues, Southern Roots Rock and Swamp Pop.
SMP could be described as Blues, Americana and Alt-Country but with elements of both Southern Rock and Swamp Pop. The SMP sound often relies on a solid and technical rhythm section as the foundation with most often simple guitar and eccentric vocals and dark writing.
Interest in SMP really started to gain traction with support by Miss Arkansas Lakynn Mcbride, then SMP began to perform well in online voting for the top ten in Ernie Ball's battle of the bands 2012 for both Warped Tour Seattle and Uproar Dallas. SMP could not have performed so well without the spontaneous support of Southern artists Zoe Ann of Dallas Texas and Alexa Stephenson of Tennessee as well as other artists from across USA. This had lead to interest in the SMP act and growing legion of fans both locally and on the internet. Southern USA artists have been tremendously supportive of a Canadian band with a love for Southern culture which at times harkens to musical milestones that are sometimes passed over or straying into modern territory a retro band normally wouldn't.
Founded July 4th 2010 on Vancouver Island in Western Canada the Swamp Music Players are a music collective with a Gonzo approach. A group of local professionals, semi-professionals and flop house heroes got together to do a series of charity gigs in Victoria British Columbia. They helped raise school supplies for their friend in Louisiana by doing a "Swamp Music" show and were inspired by the response by the young crowd to Swamp Blues, New Orleans Blues and Southern music. Some of the iPhone generation couldn't even recognize what genre it was....punk?....garage rock? The collective has since thrived playing shows for the local food bank, raising funds for African non-profit and getting booked by local venues.
In promoting their soon to be released self-titled LP "Swamp Music Players" they entered both the Ernie Balls Battle of the Bands contests "Warped Tour and "Uproar" and were surprised! They got into the top ten voting for Seattle and Dallas and in no small part from the enthusiastic support of popular acts such as Zoe Ann, Alexa from Shock & Awe and Dana Destefano. They have had FM airplay in Missouri and streamed out of popular online stations all over the world but the love from other musicians from the Southern States has been the most notable. In most cases bands that far eclipse whatever success they have had. The support and encouragement of the Southern music community has been humbling and inspiring.
“Swamp music is a genre that's not too familiar in Victoria; but as Shaw TV's Jen Muranetz discovers, there's one group in the city that's playing the swamp while raising money for charity”

“As part of the Musician’s Association of Victoria, he says he’s often surprised by how little-known Victoria artists are, despite what they accomplish outside the city. Things like Swamp Music, enthusiastic but still a little lonely in Logan’s Pub, get ignored. “It’s like Christ,” Wainwright chuckles, “Nobody’s a prophet in their hometown.”

"Swamp Music Players have such a unique sound that is both catchy and infectious at the same time. Find myself humming along with their music..." Bluesman Doug Dickens
