Album Notes

Crewed By The Damned is the debut album from New Jersey-based metal pirates Swashbuckle, featuring an arsenal of intense, unrelenting thrash metal tunes reminiscent of vintage Anthrax & Exodus; and a collection of authentic, acoustic-based pirate shanties highlighted by catchy guitar melodies & creative percussion. Not the type of diverse styles you\'d hear on a typical metal album - but then again, Swashbuckle are not your typical metal band.

Forged upon the seven seas, Swashbuckle\'s unique brand of 'In Yar Face' metal is set to take the metal community by storm.

REVIEWS

As reviewed by All Access Magazine (July-2007) In previous reviews of some metal bands I’ve referred to vocalist with incoherent roars as howler monkey vocals. For this CD I’d like to add the description of howler monkey with a heavy dose of barking dog in need of a throat lozenger. However, despite the vocal style which actually grew on me as I played through the CD, this is hardcore metal that’s played at a fast pace with musical grooves and hooks that get the body moving. And personally this is what I want in a metal band regardless of the vocal style. Plus there are some oddities mixed into this bands approach to metal that really trip me out and I like. For starters the CD begins with a Flamenco guitar song, played backwards at the start then switches and which oddly enough made me think I was at a bull fight and had me looking at my CD player sideways, but then the intro song ends and the band blasts into a metal blitz which slaps you in the face and says “wake the “F” up mother@#$%@#”. A little further down the track list are some Irish instrumentals - “Set Sail” and “What a Ship is” to name a few, with each followed by pure assaulting, unabated, unapologetic metal that grabs you by the scruff of your collar, shakes the hell out of you, and tosses you back into the pit for some more punishment. This slow, fast, slow, pacing is as if the band is letting you catch your breath before the next cyclone hits because it’s gonna hit and hit hard. Definitely a metal moshing CD to be punished by and I’m betting their live show is probably the same!!! And isn’t that what we really want from our hardcore metal bands? Yes I say.

Found out about this band on Talking Metal. Dig the attitude and the riffs are outstanding. Cool acoustic jams too.
