Especially in this economy, it is entirely impressive to still see young people following their dreams—and working their asses off to achieve them.  But Stephanie White and her Philth have never seized to amaze and impress.  Their sophomore album “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” combines apparent hard work with the continued development of a unique and beautiful sound.  The new songs—all originals plus a lovely cover of the ‘90s hit “King of Wishful Thinking”—are perfectly tailored to Stephanie’s melting vocals.  
Stephanie continues to grow and capture new audiences with her soulful notes. She leads this band of increasingly talented musicians, including rockstar writer and percussionist Robbie LaFalce and truly impressive guitarist Eric Lindberg.
Lyrics cover the typical topics of love and heartache in a new and powerful way, giving the heroine romantic control and a confident voice.  “Figure It Out” pairs catchy lyrics with a folksy guitar and ska horns.  And “Emerald City Blues” showcases personal struggle with Stephanie’s spectacular vocal range.  With tracks like “Cheat on My BFFL” (Best Friend For Life, in case you didn’t know,) and “Can’t Get You Outta My Head,” this album is going to be unbelievably better live.  Even the drums and horns reflect the next level of maturity in the artists’ careers. This is best exhibited in “Teardrops” and its faintly Indian sound.
Beyond all of the obvious talent and sweat that went into this new album, it is very clear that this was truly a passion project. An album with this creative quality can only come from a group of people who really know and trust each other.   This enthusiasm jumps out at the listener through each chord and note.  
The second record took over three years to release and, while that built agonizing anticipation, the growth and beauty shows in the details.  This is an album and a voice you need to hear to believe.
