Album Notes

Sweet Steel is Julie Jaskula and Sue Manaois. Julie and Sue studied steel pans and played in the steel band together at Northern Illinois University under the direction of master tuner and arranger Cliff Alexis. After finishing their graduate work at NIU, Julie moved to the San Diego, CA area and Sue moved to the Dallas, TX area where they each pursued careers as performing musicians. While Julie and Sue were performing individually, they were both asked frequently about whether they had recorded a CD, so they decided to work together and collaborate on the first Sweet Steel CD. Steel Drum Sounds of the Caribbean is a collection of popular soca, calypso and reggae island tunes. The music ranges from Caribbean ballads to up-tempo party music and also includes 2 tunes from Walt Disney's "The Little Mermaid."

Julie and Sue are currently both performing professionally under the name Sweet Steel and also doing freelance work with other musicians. They each play Caribbean and Classical steel drum music for private parties, corporate events and weddings in San Diego, CA and Dallas, TX.
