Album Notes

How to make a living selling yourself short is the debut solo release from Sodajerk front man Alex Brenner under the moniker Swing Set. Alex has spent nearly a decade playing indie rock and country with Sodajerk touring the east coast. Originally based out of Pittsburgh, PA he has received rave reviews as well as regular rotation on WYEP. Through WYEP Alex had the opportunity to share the stage with such acts and Lucinda Williams, Drive By Truckers and Reverend Horton Heat. In 2005 he relocated to Atlanta hoping to expand his musical horizons. The majority of How to make a living selling yourself short was recorded in his Decatur apartment using a lap top and a few old microphones. Guest musicians Emily Kate Boyd and Vanessa Olivarez helped add a melodic sound to his stark compositions. To keep true to his roots Alex reached out to Pretty Mighty Mighty front man Jon Chinn to mix the album. They had not spoken in nearly a decade since touring together during Alex’s indie rock days. Being such a big fan of Jon’s previous and current work it was a perfect fit.
