The follow-up to 2002's "Week Days, Weak Knees" by 22 year old Syd, critically acclaimed Boston singer/songwriter. Mature songwriting, a rock and roll band and pop/rock hooks are the building blocks of this record.

notes

With influences ranging from Ani Difranco to Jack Johnson and from Dashboard Confessional to Coldplay, Syd lives for pop melodies and sharp hooks. With a strong, haunting voice that carries his songs, and guiar chops to boot, he's "a rising star" (The Day). Relaxed and charismatic onstage and off, Syd brings his Vermont charm with him wherever he goes. It's paid off, as he's won over audiences across the country, playing over 150 shows a year.

Syd's latest album, "Fault Lines" has sold over 2000 copies since release in Mayof 2004 and was named one of the top 25 Demos of the Year by Music Connection magazine. "Back Home", a haunting lullabye that closes the album earned Syd an award from the Great American Songwriting Contest. Recently Syd took home a Gibson Les Paul after the uplifting pop gem "All I Know" made him a finalist in the Starbucks/Nemo songwriting competition. All this to say that Fault Lines was well worth the effort.

Crammed into short weeks of recording in January of 2004 with no time to waste Syd and guitarist Tuck laid down the basic tracks for the album with producers Todd Hannigan and Jesse Seibenberg (Jack Johnson, Supertramp, Tristan Prettyman) who helped craft an album that captured the songs they had toured in the Fall of 2003. From the gritty stomp of "This Is What I Get" and the counrty shuffle of "Dreams" to the anthemic, rousing "Rest of My Life", Syd shows a rare ability to transcend the singer/songwriter genre and make it his own.

As life on the road continues this fall with a solo acoustic tour of colleges and band dates in major East Coast cities (including a second annual showcase slot at Boston's Nemo music festival), Syd shows no signs of letting up.

I know a CD touches me when my Yorkie, "Maxxie" starts singing with me. When Baby starts to play, Max starts to ROCK! Fault Lines has no faults. And the Donation offer was just pure Syd. Genius.

SYD Rules!!!!! I first heard about/saw SYD when he played a coffee house at Curry College. I helped sell his first CD and other memorablia at the merch table that night, and was wicked excited to listen to Fault Lines. It definitely delivers, and is by far some of the best, most well-written, competent music being created in today's Sexy-Pop infuzed-society. Truely intelligent and straight-from-the-guts rock that will make your head and your heart spin with their lyrical talents!!! A MUST-LISTEN!!!!!

  • Great CD, great sound.

I love this CD. It fits great in the singer/songwriter genre, and is one of those you can put on to listen during dinner, in the car, or to play along with. Great job

This CD is a great follow up to "Week Days, Weak Knees". It shows how Syd is growing and the music is just plain great as with his last album. "Baby" will have you dancing before you know it and "Carry Me" will have you singing along in no time! "The Bottom" with its deep dark drum beat and the haunting lyrics, will astound you. The album is a wonderful one to just throw in the player and listen to over and over. There is something for everyone, slow mellow grooves, and fast upbeat catchy tunes. This will certainly be one I pull out to listen to for years to come.

  • Syd's best yet!!
    author: Dave Hallsworth

I have been listening to Syd from the days when he just had a couple of mp3s on mp3.com. Even then, Syd's potential was obvious. Fault Lines is difficult to fault (sorry - pun intended!!) Anybody who has every listened to Syd knows his lyrical and musical talent, but what hits home about this album is just how SOLID then whole thing is. Each song feels complete and perfectly crafted. The album in its entirity is a pleasure to listen to, and it is also a pleasure to hear such upcoming talent. On top of that, he just plain ROCKS!

  • songs for every mood
    author: Mindy

This CD has a song for every mood--I haven't taken it out of my CD player yet. When I need to get excited, I listen to "Baby" or "All I Know" and when I feel more chill it's "The Bottom" or "Carry Me"...The whole CD just rocks.

  • Wow...Quite a leap...

The bio says he's only 21. Only 21? Amazing! Syd's first record was a good listen (as shown by the reviews), this record...it rocks!!! Everything from his songwriting, to his playing, to his voice, to the recording has jumped to the next level, in a major way. Check this out. It won't disappoint.
