The debut CD from The Symbolics features the songwriting of guitarist/singer Paul Braus. Inspired by power-pop icons such as Fountains of Wayne and The Raspberries, the music is well-crafted pop with an alt-rock edge. The music jumps off this disc thanks to top-notch production -- and the work of sterling rhythm section T-rock on bass and Darcy Macrae on drums.
Ranging from guitar heavy cuts like title-track Smoke Signals and Higher Than Before to the country rock of Nashville, with jumping keyboards from guest Doug Maxwell (who also engineered the disc!), this CD covers a wide range on the rock n roll landscape.
The CD opens with a version of Macbeth as never imagined by William Shakespeare – jangly, searing guitar riffs complementing a rapid re-telling of the bard’s classic tale. Ten more songs follow featuring more melodic hooks, soaring harmonies and guitar mojo. In addition, sink your teeth -- and cranium -- into some social commentary on tracks like War Against the World and Endless Cellphone Conversation.
The Symbolics are based in New York City, where they play most of their live shows – and are hoping to reach out to new listeners…
