Symmetry, a creative folk duo: Soprano Wendy Bruner and alto Melinda Ohlemiller met as colleagues but were both raised in families with strong church music traditions and performed in secondary school and collegiate groups. As Symmetry, they present original songs born of their strong convictions as well the lighter side of their roles as wives, parents, friends, leaders, and students of the world. Started as an antidote to stress, Symmetry has appeared in St. Louis area coffeehouses, charity events, houses of worship, and concert halls since 2003. In November 2007, Wendy and Melinda released their first CD, "Symmetry: Live at the Sheldon". “With Our Hands”, released in December 2010, in a compilation of several live recordings. Both life-long advocates for people in need of care, Melinda and Wendy work in non-profits in St. Louis and dedicate their lives to healing, social justice, and, um, unbridled laughter.
“With Our Hands” includes guest performances by pianist/arranger Neal Richardson, violinist Brian Elder, and baritone Rich Hennicke.
What people are saying about Symmetry:
“Thanks for your beautiful music yesterday. It was so uplifting, especially at a time when I really need some healing in my life. What an unexpected surprise: to hear such lovely acoustic folk music. You have voices like angels!”
“Your talents are so appreciated... please know your gift of music made an impact on me. And God Bless as you continue to share your talents, and minister to the rest of us.”
“thanks for an inspiring evening---in a million different ways. Your music truly touched my heart, soul...and my funny bone. thanks a thousand times.”
“The woman next to me said you sound like Joan Baez. “
“Last night was a way to reconnect with the beauty of life and of people. I was just floored and I did not expect to be so deeply moved.”
“I think you probably don't realize how much your music affects your audience. Out of the soul comes forth music and ultimately much healing.”
We really enjoyed the Symmetry concert and will be getting the CD. We laughed a lot and were so thrilled by the entire evening.
“The concert was absolutely fabulous. I love the new songs I haven't heard before. I will admit I teared up a couple of times. I keep humming some of the songs over and over. I can't get them out of my head.”
“What a night. Inspired songwriting and heavenly harmonies, tender feelings and lots of fun.”
“We talked about the range of your songs for days. Funny, sweet, sorrowful, puzzled. Can't wait to see you again with more people in tow!”
“We look forward to seeing you at future events! Keep up the great work. Your music is such a wonderful blend of raw emotion, humor and social consciousness. Love it.”
“Wendy and Melinda—you are beautiful! Your music is so moving. I can relive the night over and over. Thank you.”
“I intended to listen to this CD while I paid bills and caught up on
paperwork. However, this music is so good I just put my feet up and
relaxed while I listened. I will be sending their web link to my
contact list with a rave review. “
“In the intimacy of my car, I listen and listen again. I think I've internalized all the songs. Initially the fun ones are the ones which I enjoyed but now I find myself drawn to the more powerful ones. You blend so well - you must practice for hours because it is just perfect.”
“Oh! I don't believe I have told you how much I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your latest cd!!!! Holy Cow! I can't stop listening to it. I think I just about have every song memorized.”
“I just got your CD from my mom and I love it! I'm so excited that you guys decided to turn your concert into a live CD. My daughter and I listen to it almost every day and get the songs stuck in our heads and wind up singing them throughout the day. I just wanted to tell you that your CD is great, you guys are so talented and that listening to your CD brightens my day. Thanks again!”
“WOW! Once again I have been just blown away by your concert.”
“you showcased a new song written by Melinda and even though I don't remember the title of the song I remember that it resonated with my life, struggles, and hope that I found on the other side of my "Dark Night of the Soul.". . . thank you so much for sharing your God given gifts for writing music, seeing the BIG picture, and not being afraid to sing it loud!”
“Heard you for the first time at Hartford Cafe and have been singing and telling everyone I know about you ever since!
I loved listening and laughing!”
