Album Notes

2008 Soultracks Readers' Choice Awards Nominee for Female Vocalist Of The Year! (www.soultracks.com)

"One of the top 10 CDs of 2006! 'Neo-soul has run its course. The next phase is unfolding in Los Angeles, and the endearingly tripped-out Smith is its leading songstress."
-- The Boston Globe - Siddhartha Mitter

Kajmere Sound hopes to help add to this incredible artist's many accolades; the Emmy-nominated singer/songwriter Sy Smith is a different kind of triple-threat, a dept producer/performer and prolific writer.

Her new full length, "The Syberspace Social", recently re-mastered with 3 NEW SONGS ADDED for the release by Kajmere Sound, features mind bending soul production from three of the illest beatsmiths in the world; Ali Shaheed Muhammad, James Poyser and Nicolay. No words needed.

Sy is a born-storyteller, a charismatic entertainer, who's beauty doesn't get in the way of her stage presence. Get her started about her days in a D.C. go-go band, or her tenure as Whitney Houston's back-up singer (or even with Me'shell N'degeocello, Usher, Macy Gray, Ginuwine, Eric Benet...), and she'll spin many a long and wondrous tale. Listen to "Welcome Back", the song she co-penned for HBO's Dancing In September, which earned her a seat at the 2003 Emmys. On Showtime's Soul Food, Sy held her own along side Al Green as they sing the theme song together, "That's The Way Love Goes". Sy was also a featured guest on 7 tracks of "We Won't Stop" by The Brand New Heavies. On BET, Sy holds it down as the musical director for "Lyric Cafe" hosted by Malcolm Jamal Warner and Gary Douridan. On the stage, she was nominated in 2005 for an NAACP Theatre Award for her supporting role as "Ellie Johnson" in Michael Ajakwe's "If You Don't Believe: A Love Story". Is there anything this diva can't do?

Needless to say, Kajmere Sound is proud to help keep building the castle in the sky that this incredible multi-talented performer will preside over.

"The California-based soul siren aspires to make her music laid-back, funky, and hallucinogenic. But mostly, it's engaging, space-age soul for the hip, unassuming hedonist."
- Philadelphia Weekly

"Looking for adventurous, lyrically compelling soul music? Sy Smith - whose backing credits include 'Ally McBeal', Gap ads and Whitney Houston collaborations - debuts with this aural pleaser. The multi-talented Smith goes to town on such tracks as 'Part of the Night', 'Runnin', 'Bruise', and 'Fa Sho', inspired by a melange of influences from R&B, hip-hop, soul, go-go and funk, to jazz, gospel and classical. She is marching to the no-holds-barred beat of her inner muse -- and we are the better for it."
-- Billboard Magazine - Gail Mitchell

Sy has mastered the fine art of embracing all of her personalities (and quite gracefully I might add) she gently takes us to the many dimensions of her universe in Syberspace, experimenting with pop, rock, bossa, and futuristic soul. I am a solid fan and will sing her praises to all those who I encounter who have long since turned their backs on “radio music” because of the lack of substance and variety. Keep up the good work Sy!

Sy does it AGAIN!
author: Myisha Harris
It almost ain't fair just how GREAT she is! Why are people SLEEPING on this talented Sister??!? Anyway, Sy does it again on her 2nd, Syberspace Social. I loved her debut, Psykosoul, and this one just keeps the good music flowing. I love the futuristic sound of this album. Not your typical sound. Some of my favorites are Welcome 2 Syberspace (the BEST opening song, to ever introduce an album! LOL), Fa Sho, Time, Love and Such, and DREAMTRIP (My favorite)...I really could name every song on the CD, so I'll stop here. Definitely pick this up!
