“5 Now 6 Later” is a collection of five original pieces by Carlos Tabora. It has been released as an EP to help finance his upcoming full-length album, “Statement of Faith.” Calling his music “New Age Worship,” Tabora recently won first place in Billboard’s 11th Annual World Song Contest in the Gospel/Contemporary Christian category with his song “Your Love Changes Everything,” which is included on this release. Three of the five tracks are vocals with piano and keyboard accompaniment, and the other two are piano solos. Tabora’s ministry is focused on new age music listeners who are seeking a better relationship with God. He says that many “are drawn to new age music for its healing and meditative purposes, when Jesus Christ was the greatest healer that ever lived.”
The three vocal tracks are very contemporary, the lyrics being the distinguishing difference between these songs and well-made ballads heard on the radio or television. “If I Believe” is beautifully sung by Allison Paige. It’s a rhythmic, slow-dance kind of song with heartfelt words and delivery. The second track, “Love’s Like a Novel” is a well-crafted song, but the lyrics don’t feel quite right to me, with the hook being “your love is like a novel - hard to put down.” This one seems a little bit forced. I can certainly see why “How Your Love Changes Everything” won such a major award, and wouldn’t be surprised to see it take off. Very well done! “Remember When” and “Still Searching” are charming piano solos. They don’t break any new ground, but I don’t think they were intended to. “5 Now 6 Later” is kind of sneak preview of things to come, and Carlos Tabora could easily become the next “big thing” in contemporary Christian music. His EP and song samples are available from www.PassionatePiano.com.
