Tadpoles, based in Hoboken, NJ, disbanded in 2000 after releasing 4 critically acclaimed studio albums, 1 live album and 1 E.P. all on their own Bakery Records label (except for their last studio album, Whirlaway, which was released on Australia's Camera Obscura Records.) The group was formed by vocalist/guitarist, Todd Parker and original drummer, Michael Kite Audino in New York City in 1990.
Members of the New York group, HIT, bassist David Max & guitarist/vocalist Nick Kramer joined in 1992 and Adam Boyette became the full time drummer in 1996.
Career highlights include a four-star review in Rolling Stone magazine (May 1996) for their second studio album, Far Out, which like all of their studio albums (except Whirlaway) was produced by Shimmy Disc/Bongwater mogul, Kramer.
The group was also featured in the first Terrastock festival in Providence, Rhode Island in 1997 and their performance was captured on their live album "Destroy Terrastock-Live." Although Tadpoles rarely performed live, their shows were always a multi-media sensory overload experience with films, videos, strobe lights, and other homemade visual effects.
The band toured the West Coast in 1997 with Boston's Cul de Sac and Windy & Carl (as well as the late legendary John Fahey on one date.) Since Tadpoles disbanded, David, Nick & Adam have reformed HIT and Todd Parker continues to operate Bakery Records in Hoboken.

FAR OUT: Description
The album that made Tadpoles "famous." A prime example of 1990's style psychedelic rock. Produced by Kramer (Shimmy Disc / Bongwater / Butthole Surfers / Ween)
FAR OUT REVIEWS:
Rolling Stone, May 30, 1996
"4 STARS- Taking the approach of all great psychedelic rockers, Tadpoles & producer, Kramer, treat the studio like a playground, crafting mini symphonies from layers of weird guitars, six-string fuzz bass and impressionistic vocals. Its a heady mix that deserves to disorient a much wider audience."

tadpoles - FAR OUT
author: Bob Feeney
The Tadpoles take lysergic rock to new heights never even dreamed of by the Beatles. They make excellent use of feedback, sustain, and reverb in their music. They use feedback in a way similar to the Dream Syndicate on the title track of their CD "The Days of Wine and Roses." This sound is a droning background to the melodic, psychedelic jamming going on by the rest of the band. Added to this in small portions are sounds similar to the Cocteau Twins to add an ethereal, dreamy sound to the music. Finally, the Tadoles add to the psychedelic feel with Alice-in-Wonderland song titles like "Race You to the Mustard Patch." This band made sublime music and I wish they were still around.

The Tadpoles must be the best kept secret on the CD Baby web site. The Tadpoles have 7 albums at CD Baby. A “best of 1990 – 2000” – a 2001 copyright. “He Fell Into The Sky” – a 1994 copyright. “Far Out” – a 1996 copyright. “Know Your Ghost E.P.” – a 1997 copyright. “Smoke Ghost” – a 1998 copyright. “Destroy Terrastock-Live” a live album also from 1998. And “Whirlaway” – a copyright from 1999 (this one does have a 5 star rating from Terry Provance). So, my question is this…if they have been around all this time why no ratings? I almost didn’t buy their albums because they’ve been around for so long and no one is rating them. Nothing good…nothing bad! Thank God I did buy them because their 2 minute sound clips sounded so good to me. These guys are great folks…if you’re thinking of buying you won’t go wrong. Especially if you buy 3 of them (they’re part of the $5 Special). If you have the albums for God’s sake take a few minutes and rate these guys. After all they deserve it…and you can’t rag on them because they are so darn good!
