Hendelman Promising New Star
author: John Birchard
Tamir Hendelman shows signs of individuality among his various influences. His composition, "Playground", is attractive and funky. The way he re-does Horace Silver's "Cape Verdean Blues" demonstrates a fresh approach as well as impressive chops. That Hendelman has been chosen by Clayton and Hamilton to play in their band is high praise, as is their presence on Tamir's own CD.
I also liked his original ballads, "Sycamore" and "Almost Summer". They put the listener in a quiet mood. In a way, Tamir Hendelman reminds me of Victor Feldman, a non-American who speaks the language of jazz like a native. I look forward to hearing more.

Tamir Hendelman: Playground

It's everything that I expected it to be from these three giants - Tamir, John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton. My shelves are already bulging with previuos examples of their talent and this CD certainly keeps up the standard. Tamir's wonderful arrangements, so full of harmonic syncopation and color, are always a pure joy and wonder to listen to.

Tamir Hendelman: Playground

It's always a joy when I hear there is new material by Tamir, John Clayton or Jeff Hamilton. When they are all together, you know it's going to be good.
That is certainly the case with this album. I hear bits of Andre Previn and Bill Evans in his playing, but Tamir really has a style all of his own... and what a great style it is.
The piano playing is complex, yet accessible. The creative arrangements only add to the listening pleasure.
The rhythm section is the best there is. Jeff Hamilton is perhaps the greatest jazz drummer that ever lived. John Clayton's bass is always a treat.
If you are a fan of the jazz trio, you will enjoy this work from these marvelous musicians.
