Album Notes

In the tradition of Adult Album Alternative radio and the re-emergence of the singer/songwriter in the late 1990s, Peter Tammetta is looking for his place among the great American songwriters past and present with his debut release. From birth to death to rebirth, A Thousand Years addresses the timeless commonality of the human experience.

Themes of growth, transformation, love, and self-discovery weave their way through this collection of songs, from the hopeful Beautiful Dreamer's images of rebirth, through the title track's sense of timelessness and fate, to Last Love Song's peaceful admission that some questions will be left unanswered.

Intimate personal stories and images from Tammetta's own experience resonate with the listener, a metaphorical comment on their own lives. Thoughtful lyrics evoke Paul Simon, Sarah McLachlan and James Taylor. The production style incorporates textural and rhythmic elements of Rickie Lee Jones, Bob Marley and Sting, with pulsing grooves and textural layers of sound supporting the material without obscuring the essence of the songs.

Featuring some of Seattle's premier musicians including producer David Loy, a former LA session player, Keith Lowe, Fiona Apple's touring Bass Player, and Van Manakas , from the New York session scene.

In a hail of light a state of grace
Blink of an eye twist of your fate
The little things and everything
Drift away beautiful dreamer
The seven wonders the salt in your tears
Witness to the missing years
Another life another time
Drift away beautiful dreamer
Beautiful Dreamer - P. Tammetta

It's one thing to blend styles, it's another to transcend your influences, and merge styles with your own personality. Peter Tammetta's music is infused with personality. At times poignant and ironic, his work transcends conventional definition, and his songwriting stands on the edge of the future. And I can't wait to hear his future. I love this record!

I listen to this CD over and over, finding something new in it everytime. The songs are different enough that I don't get bored but not so different that I have to turn down the volume or skip any songs. This CD is in my keeper pile along with Paul Simon's Graceland, Rickie Lee Jones' Flying Cowboys, Shawn Colvin's Covergirl, and Marc Cohn's Rainy Season, just to name a few.
