Album Notes
Based in Washington, D.C., Tammy Lynn Pertillar is a dramatic soprano who has performed professionally as a soloist and as musical director of IMANI women's A Cappella quartet. Her voice, with a unique phrasing style all her own, has been described as "clear and citrusy," and has a bell-like resonance. The daughter of a concert pianist and choral director, she does not remember a time when she did not sing.

With a background in diverse forms of music ranging from Gospel to Classical, Ms. Pertillar has enjoyed performing as a member of duets, trios and quartets as well as Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass choirs. Her background in musical theatre is notable, and she has performed in community theatre productions of "Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "The Wiz". A member of the American Society for Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), she also has a background in creative writing and voiceovers.

Ms. Pertillar has studied voice at the Levine School of Music, and her love of classical works has naturally led her to perform compositions written in the Italian and Latin languages. A linguist and historian with two Master's degrees and a specialization in comparative Spanish and Portuguese language and culture, Ms. Pertillar has lived and worked in diverse international fields. Wherever she may be, she utilizes voice as her principal instrument.

“Luminata” is Ms. Pertillar’s sophomore recording on her very own label, Urban Bird Records.
