Album Notes

"TampaStan" began working on this CD over 2 Decades ago... Primarily a Compulsive Lyricist, Stan pens a Lyric-a-Day on average. This has resulted in a Stack about 5 feet wide and about 2 Feet High, propped against the Living Room Sofa...

As with the Thousand Monkeys at The Thousand Typewriters, eventually "Shakespeare" pours Out...

Or in this Case, 10 Songs that Western Swing Legend Gene Allen hand-picked from over 100 Demos Stan Made Over the Years.

Stan collects Early Electric FANS...has over 1000 of 'em, Third Largest Collection on the Planet ("Began Collectin' 'em when my Wife mentioned I'd spent $30K on Recordings back in the '80's and only made $26 for the Decade...I quit Writing "Cold Turkey" 1989-1999...then wrote over 1000 Songs in 3 years. I've known Gene over a Decade..we both have Flea Market Booths at Webster, Florida, and I bought LOTS of Fans from him, long before we each found out the Other had MUSIC Roots!")

Back to the 10 Songs: These Gene Arranged/Produced & Stan Recorded in Branson, MO, in March (Coming down with Miserable Colds..Branson's LOTS Colder than Florida, they learned the Hard Way) & had to return in April to Recut several Vocals half a Bottle of Jim Beam couldn't cure durin' the March Session. "DON'T YOU EVER GROW OLD" had pretty Shredded Vocals on that Cut...but it sounded Better thataway...and only got ON the CD 'cuz Gene's Son, "Jr." heard it on a Cassette of Songs Stan Wrote/Other Collaborators Sang.

Jr. went into the Taurus parked Outside & Sulked 'till Gene Listened to it...

Gene did...finally...and the CD Got it's Title Cut, Very Last Minute!

Lotsa Other Great Annecdotes on Each of the Tracks...(Check out Janet Fisher's new "MUSIC HORROR STORIES" Book & you'll find Stan and "PIG-OUT" in Chapter 7...)

Stan's currently writing Material for a Comedy on Osama Bin Laden ("A MARTYR BORN EACH MINUTE".."DARK CAVE BLUES"...) and Gettin' Ready to Cut a CHRISTMAS CD with Gene Allen Producing again, this August-September ("GRANNY WANTS A HARLEY FOR CHRISTMAS"..."{THIS HERE CHRISTMAS} WE'RE GONNA GO FER BROKE"...) so Hopefully, you'll Like what you Hear HERE enough to Buy It ("Thank-You..Thank-You..Thank-You! My Wife is ON Me Again for spendin' so much in the Studios again!")

"It ain' CHEAP hirin' Mickey Gilley's Piano Man, Mel Tillis' Pedal Steel Guy, and Janie Fricke's Background Singers...but that's who you're hearin' behind me on this Freshman CD...Gene didn't Skimp on the Production...& I'm glad he Didn't! Can't WAIT to do the Christmas CD! (Several Fiddlers played FREE just to be on a Gene Allen Production...Whee!) Mike Arlidge SMOKES on Lead Guitar on the Rock Numbers..
Try This...You'll Like SOMETHING here...
Gene has GREAT Taste in Song Selection!"

REVIEWS

"Frankly, it's good clean fun, & that in itself is enough of a reason to buy."

Stan Good (TampaStan) has come up with 10 songs that are so infectious you'll have to give E cream to your friends to make sure it doesn't spread. To begin with, the hit comes at the commencement: "PIG OUT" is a quirky comic song that is filled to the gut with clever musical touches like snorting, pig calling and oinking during this tribute to overeating. Luckily, as in all comic songs, since the lyrics are almost the most important part, TampaStan has fine enunciation, letting you understand all he's saying. The tinkling piano and spry beat will make this a family favorite. Anyone who is a fan of Benny Hill will love this album. While it's not exactly a joke-lyric album, it does have that sound (and I don't mean Yakkety-Sax): bright female backing ocals that shout up into the humorous situations, with fun, big-ish arrangements glued firml in place. The best picks include "REDNECK HEAVEN," "REDNECK ROCKET" and the atmospheric violin and twang of "CRIES IN THE NIGHT." As you may guess by the two Rednecks, this is a distinctly country-painted album, and is destned to get a lot of bar scenes if The Dukes of Hazzard, the Next Generation ever sees the light. Frankly, it's good clean fun, and that in itself is enough of a reason to buy. True, you may not find this stuff anywhere outside of Dr. Demento or some wacko folk radio shows, but damn if this stuff isn't entertaining to the last!
