Probably the best way to describe Taneytown's debut album is Americana or roots-rocking country. It's not easy to put a label on this band. They have their own sound. Take a listen and get swept away by the catchy songs and the deep and husky voice.

Album Notes

The band Taneytown was formed about 2,5 years ago, but the individual members have known each other for nearly 15 years now. Singer/songwriter Edwin Jongedijk had a stash of songs written and he asked some of his friends to join him in the band. All band members were fans of the Americana genre and it was not hard to make the band work.

Taneytown's debut album was recorded in 4 days and you can hear the freshness. It's honest, genuine and passionate... They call it Americana and sure, there is some traditional country rock on this album, like Blame It On Jack, but the band has it's own sound. Edwin Jongedijk's vocals are deep, raspy, sometimes husky. Some have called the performance of this 6'4" singer mesmerizing. The band is tight, powerful, and subtle where needed.

Bruce Springsteen's finest work is called to mind when one hears Edwin's intense and sensitive vocals and witnesses his passionate stage presence. Taneytown's album features a wide range of musical styles; from the acoustic guitars in Albuquerque, New Mexico, via the smouldering jazzy sounds of Here's To You to the heavy compelling chorus of This Is How I Feel. Edwin's lyrics are heartfelt and honest. Every band member contributes evenly to the final sound, the steady and original rhythm section providing a secure base for the distinctive guitar sound and the easy-flowing keyboards. Despite the musical talent in this band, the band members aren't afraid to keep the songs simple.

If you like your music genuine, original and passionate and you're not afraid to try something new, check out this album. You won't be disappointed.

They took their name from a Steve Earle song and if you like Steve you will like this. A very strong debut album. They are from the Netherlands but this captures the American spirit, or should I say the human spirit, as well as Springsteen and Earle. I like all the tracks but "This is How I Feel" justifys the buy by itself. I hope to catch their show when they come to Maryland this summer and I recommend you do the same!

I've played the CD over and over in my car ever since I finally got it away from my husband! I especially love the rock-type sound of I Thought I Knew You and the mellow sounds of Albuquerque, New Mexico (my favorite city ever). But, you know, each time I listen to the CD, I hear something else I like. The instrumentation is fantastic throughout. The vocals are mesmerizing!Love it all!!! :-))

I live in the town that this group is named after. I saw them perform at Northwest Middle School in May 2007. They are wonderful and put on a great performance! The music on this CD is so easy to listen to. You close your eyes and let the sound of their voices and the feel of their instruments carry you away. It really nourishes the soul. I am so looking forward to their next CD.
