Tania Opland's voice has been described as "smooth, powerful and tremendously versatile", and she sings in about a dozen different languages.
This CD has songs in Russian, Ukrainian, Gaelic and (mostly) English.
Originally from Alaska, Tania has travelled extensively in the U.S., Canada, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Britain. She now lives on an Indian reservation in Washington State, her vast repertoire reflecting the diversity of the communities whose music she has shared. She has appeared on radio and television in the U.S., Canada, Russia, Uzbekistan, Scotland, Ireland and England. Her five solo albums have received excellent reviews in acoustic music magazines on both sides of the Atlantic.
"... Rich and varied musical influences. Performing traditional music and songs from France, England, Ukraine, Turkey and Scotland and giving them all the benefit of her considerable talents. A superb fiddle player, and no slouch either on recorder, guitar, cittern and hammered dulcimer, she is also in possession of a voice of gentle strength that adapts well to suit the various vocal styling required."
-Rock 'n' Reel (England) 1994
"Nothing if not cosmopolitan, this collection ... gels into a satisfying whole. Tania supports her vocals with guitar, fiddle, hammered dulcimer and a half dozen able musicians, and has produced an album worthy of investigation."
-The Living Tradition (Scotland) 1993
"Opland sings in a powerful resonant American voice... The overall effect... sounds like 'Joan Baez meets the John Renbourn Group.' A truly unique combination of diverse elements... Opland does a marvelous job singing and playing a lot of good material, and I recommend this to anyone with eclectic tastes."
-Steve Winick, Dirty Linen (United States) 1994

Great folksy music, wonderful soul and feel

While I still prefer Tania Opland's 'Cut to Rhythms' CD, this is still a very well made world folk music set, filled with familiar and exotic music and songs.
