Should I mention the soothing simplicity of the piano, guitar and balalaika arrangements? What about Tanja's golden voice? Maybe I should start with the expert musicianship? Or the amazing way that she communicates to all though singing in Yiddish, Hebrew or Ladino. I'd surely like to distinguish this tape from the plethora of syrupy warbling that floods the market. Perhaps this will say it best. Tanja's album inspired me to write this review four months in advance at a time when my writing had just about dried up! If you are a parent, if you have a child, if your child sleeps, then you need this tape. There, that says it. -- Baltimore's Child

    Nu many things have been written already. I could repeat them but that is silly. This CD brought back memories from my own childhood, new songs I have not heard but loved. I often listen to the CD while driving to work. It does not make me sleepy, it gives me a wonderful sense of peace and calmness. Do listen and buy this CD. Thank you Tanja for singing for us.

    I used Durme Durme, a ladino lullaby in our Bible Class, when we studied Proverbs, to help us learn the beautiful ladino language brought to the Americas by the Spanish Jews of the XV century. When I heard this song, I had the distinct impresion that I have heard it before many times, but this did not happened in my lifetime, it must have been an awakening of my genetic memory handed down to me, by one of my ancestors that heard it or sang it. Thank you!

    We started listening to these beautiful haunting songs 6 years ago when our first son was born, we continued with our second son and up to this day with our baby daughter. We have made up new words to some of the meolodies making them "our own" and we have also rejoiced to hear our toddlers singing in Yiddish and Ladino. Tanja Solnik's voice and these beautiful, moving songs are an indispensable part of our family's evening.

    I am a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse, to say I hear alot of baby music would be an understatement and so I know quality when I hear it. This CD hooked me immediately as I was choosing music for my daughter-in-law who is expecting our first grandchild (to go with a rocking chair gift).     When my children were born, I realized that something was missing in our household - the presence of Yiddush. I remember my mother speaking it while I was growing up, and I wanted my children to recognize it as a language that belonged to them. I found Tanja Solnik's cd and can honestly say that I love it. I play it in the car, and my children relax immediately. Playing it at night ensures an easy bedtime transition. The presence of both Yiddush and Ladino on the cd fill our home with a much needed link to our ancestry. The musical arrangements and vocals are meaningful - not just sung to ensure the words are preserved, but that the emotions of the original authors are remembered.

    My 2-1/2 year-old son listens to this CD every night before falling asleep and begs me to play it all the time! ("Please, I wanna hear the lady singing!") These are the traditional Yiddish lullabies I heard as a kid from my grandma, and I'm glad to be able to pass them on to my son using this CD (we sing them together now, and the liner includes all the lyrics) despite having forgotten all the lyrics. It's definitely his favorite CD! In fact, we got one as a gift from a friend when our son was born and started playing it for him when he was about 18 months old, and we played it so much it got scratched and started skipping badly, so we found it on this site and ordered another one. Bedtime without the CD was tough for a few weeks in the meantime! An outstanding CD!
