THE BEST ALBUM TO EMERGE IN A VERY LONG TIME!
author: MaryI didn't think anyone wrote lyrics like this anymore -- or performed them with such depth and truthfulness. I am in love with the CD and it is already among the favorites of my lifetime. Steve Tannen is an amazing songwriter -- genius, heart and soul all rolled up together. I was moved back to what I thought was a lost musical dimension. I know Steve is now half of The Weepies with Deb Talan (also an amazing artist) but he really should continue to do some solo work, too. It would be a great loss if he didn't.
Works its magic slowly
author: JakeAn album of songs about love, a proxy for, or a facsimile of. It didn’t grab me like the Weepies, or Deb’s solo albums, but there’s velcro. In the dark corners the honesty weighs heavy under a cover of loneliness.
Faith int he future
author: fred leoMusic like this gives a fossil like me faith in the future of music. Wonderful songwriting, arrangement, production. It's warm, comfortable and bright stuff.
Rediscovering an old friend
author: Katherine DeStefanoI'm a huge fan of Deb Talan's from waay back (when she was playing tiny coffeehouses in Cambridge to crowds of 4!) and subsequently the Weepies and I'm floored by the fact that I didn't buy this album sooner. Steve Tannen is a lyrical genius in this album. Sing me to Sleep is a quick favorite, with snippets like "She holds the bottle like a gun in her mouth" and "The sun comes up like it's thinking it over." And San Francisco, I can't even begin. Why I didn't buy this before is a mystery...and a crime.
A new favorite
author: Ted KostisinI can't stop playing the CD. I've listened to San Francisco about 20x in the first week I've owned it and I can't get enough.
Lyrically fantastic, vocally soothing
author: M.Great cd! Lyrics are astounding, artist delivers with an amazing vocal performance wonderfully accompanied by the guitar.
When can we expect Steve to pay attention to Europe?
author: Richard ComerfordTruely one of the better albums I've bought this year. A big secret this side of the pond but if i've my way not for much longer.
I thought it was great, sing out loud when your by yourself music!
author: jennifer houckSing me to sleep: I love it. All the songs have a great sound and an awesome tune. The guitar is wonderfully played. We want more.

Amazing, will become famous
author: IngridTruly amazing, no one else like him. His songs are so moving, you must hear them
A Gem-Really!
author: Michael A.Who is this man, and where does he create this stuff? Unbelievable-what can I say? Poetry and meolodic ecstacy- a voice that you believe and songwriting that is pure gift. Just get it! I haven't stopped playing these songs since I stumbled on them at Club Passim in Cambridge by accident. . Steve Tannen has lived these songs. I play them again and again, and they are always true.
Here's to college radio
author: DuyenoyamaI had heard Tannen's track "San Francisco" on WERS (Emerson College, MA) and hounded the Music Director until he called me back with the artist's information. I was happy to discover that the rest of the CD was just as good.
Amazing.
author: Betsy LudwigSteve couples his amazing voice with witty lyrics and great music. I have enjoyed listening to this album everyday since receiving it. A must for anyone's CD changer.
mesmerizing
author: Jennifer LaytonHonest, real, poetic, and beautiful. The two live tracks are my favorites. When I put this on the CD player, I have to play it all the way through.
Not to be missed...one of the best indie CD's I've heard...
author: Andrea Maybaum (singer/songwriter)"Well I hung around like cigarette smoke on your jacket..." Absolutely brilliant! This CD has unbelieveable lyrics and passionate, delicious music. I love it!
Loneliness with passion and guts... killer production -- the real deal!
author: Erik Balkey (singer-songwriter)I love this CD! Not many can pull it off, but Steve does "loneliness" right and without pretense. His music is moody, its passionate, it has an urgency. His lyrics are vivid and original. He paints a mood with his voice, his stories and the music -- it is palpable. He draws the listner into his scenes, like he is whispering these stories to you on a street corner in the early AM. Voice is a cross between Tracy Chapman and Ellis Paul among others. Fantastic production -- great musicianship. Steve Tannen has got the goods!
The words are honest and meaningfull. This baby rocks!
