Tanya Brody can't remember a time she wasn't singing. From childhood on she was acting and singing on stage, in school and professionally around Minneapolis, MN where she grew up. At 13 she joined the Bel Canto Voices, a professional girls choir that toured around the country and internationally. At 14 she joined the entertainment staff at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and performed with a guitar on the street. Soon after she was given a harp for the holidays, which became her primary instrument. She performed around Minneapolis, and then branched out by going to the Carolina Renaissance Festival in 1994. That launched her Renaissance Festival Circuit career. Tanya has branched out from her Renaissance roots into other venues including Scottish Games, Folk Festivals libraries and Colleges with her new Celtic band, The Muses. Check out her web page to see where they might be playing near you.
Sirens and Lovers, Tanya's third album, is the first one she's ever put her own original music onto. Tanya has created a trilogy of songs about a woman who gets turned into and subsequently freed from being a Siren. Siren's Lament is the young woman's tale of woe. Sailor's Curse is the fellow's side of the story (the reason she got in trouble in the first place.) and Siren's Defeat is the breaking of the curse, told from the point of view of the young woman who out sings the Siren to save her lover's ship. A delightful set of stories set to beautifully crafted music. Joining Tanya on this album are Michi Regier, Eddie Jeff Cahill, Matthew Gurnsey, and Patricia Irby to name a few. Matt wrote Gypsy Hawk for Tanya and sang it to her at their wedding. Included here is Tanya's version of the song. Add to this four more beautiful traditional ballads, such as Barbara Allen and Thyme for an album that sure to move your heart and soul.
Tanya has been compared to Loreena McKennitt in vocal style, among others. Many people claim that she has "The voice of an angel". Music is Tanya's first love and it comes across in her passionate playing.

Excellent

I first met this happy couple at the GenCon SoCal. I really enjoyed their performance and went to see a second performance of these two. I bought Sirens and Lovers, Hawkers and Tramps and their Newest CD Passing Time. For those who enjoy celtic tunes, listen to their work. I love it, and there are times I dont even have to have the CD on and I am humming their stuff.

Excellent writing and performance

The CD was precisely what I'd expected from seeing the artist perform, in that it was beautiful, well-written and quite different from my other CDs. The selection was good, adding a nice bit of a variety. The vocalists harmonized well, all in all. The non-trad songs were very pleasing in music and lyrics, and still managed to give the traditional air. I am enjoying this CD immensely!
