Album Notes

The anticipation of this CD has had the entire Reggae Industry at the edge of their seats. Sultry and Sexy are some of the words used to describe the natural sound heard on this sensational album.

If you knew Karl Mullings you knew that Music was his Life. Managing many greats over the years like The Sheiks, The Cougars, the Fabulous Flames and Jackie Mittoo to name a few. He held his brightest star in his hands and her talents spoke for it. Since his passing on July 29th, 2005 there was doubt that since the loss of her father/manager, Tanya wouldn’t have the strength to finish their last works together.

Shortly after his funeral in an interview Tanya had with Toronto Star’s Catherine Dunphy Obituary Writer, she wrote:

Tanya Mullings has written one last song for her CD, waiting in Jamaica to be mixed, polished and distributed. It's about her dad and it starts off with these two lines: "You took me to a higher place/you guided me."

It is very apparent that the guidance Karl Mullings gave his daughter Tanya was ultimately the strength she drew for during times of weakness. Karl’s years of dedication to his shining star tells the story complete and full of pride. Although it was a heartbreaking reminder of his absence, it truly is a magnificent project to behold.

The title identifies the simplicity of a message Tanya is sending to the world.

His tombstone reads
"Music Was My Life
My Family is Forever
Through Music in their lives,
I Will live On"

Join Tanya and Karl as they share with you and the world the final work that bonds this father and daughter in a way that makes us all proud of Canadian Reggae.

Music Is My Life ..Tanya Mullings By Brent Hagerman If Tanya Mullings is as love lost as some of these songs suggest ("All Alone," "Broken Hearted"), you wouldn't know it by the sultry way she croons and entices the listener. Music is My Life is smooth reggae at its finest, due in part to Mullings' velvet vocals and persuasive songs, but also because the producers (Dubmatrix and Bobby Digital, to name a few) didn't equate "smooth," thankfully, with boring (sorry, Wayne Wonder). Dubmatrix keeps things interesting on "Baby Come Close," fattening up the groove for Mullings to work her magic over, and Dalton Browne adds enough pizzazz to "All Alone" to transform it from a Sade-inspired quasi-R&B song by giving it a dub injection. The cover of "Let the Music Play" has a tuff ragga riddim that provides a cool counterpoint to Mullings' voice, and the song only gets better once aggressive deejay Mega Banton puts his imprint on it. But it is album centrepiece "Nuh Easy" and the rebellious "Lonely Girl" where Mullings stakes her territory as an artist (and lover) to be reckoned with. ..Music Is My Life-->(VP)

Professional all the way!

Great vocals supported by well crafted reggae riffs! There is enough variety to showcase Tanya's talent. The graphics on this CD takes it out of the realm of local and the music say it's truly international! Love it! lb www.chry.fm Sundays 6-9pm
