SIX ARTISTS SHARE TAPEWYRM ON NEW COMPLIATION

LONDON - Tapewyrm Records releases Segments Volume 1, a compilation featuring tracks from its six artists as well as Brand Violet's new video from award-winning director Anthony Carpendale.

Segments Volume One features two tracks from:

© Brand Violet (www.brandviolet.com) - Surfgoth punk-pop in the vein of Blondie and the Pixies.
© Thumpermonkey (www.thumpermonkey.com) - Doom rock, transgenic pigs, xenozoonosis, endogenous retroviruses.
© The Milburns (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/themilburns) - Guitar pop with a country tone
© Telford Mining Disaster (TBC) - broken-hearted bluegrass-affiliated harmonic guitar/banjo duo
© The Henderson Shatners (www.thehendersonshatners.com) - What it would sound like if you were chased off the set of Kill Bill 3 and down Mulholland Drive. In 1955.
© So long, post office (http://stage.vitaminic.com/main/so_long_post_office) - Finnish-Swedish music usually forming part of art installations by artist Petra Lindholm.

Segments Volume One also features the debut of the Lesbian Vampire mini-epic 'Sororicide', starring Brand Violet and several lovely ladies from Suicide Girls (www.suicidegirls.com) -- several of whom will also feature, naked as proverbial jaybirds, in The Henderson Shatners' upcoming debut video.

Released 25 September alongside Brand Violet's new EP The Legend of Ladybeard (WYRM02), The Henderson Shatners' Henderson (WYRM03) and Thumpermonkey's Pigheart (WYRM04) the trio of releases should offer something for even the most hardened swinger.

Welcome to the world of Tapewyrm.

Makes you wonder why when the quality of music is so high - and so overwhelmingl
author: Steve Rudd
Tapewyrm Records Compilation - Segments Volume 1 (12-track album) By Steve Rudd Release Date: September 25th 2004. Far from being just another compilation album of half-rate tracks by bands most people have never heard of, this Tapewyrm release provides the best opportunity imaginable for the listener to get to know the label's six acts a whole lot better. OK, so the bands aren't that well known (YET), but as with all good compilations Segments Volume 1 does make you wonder why when the quality of music is so high - and so overwhelmingly diverse. Perhaps the best known band present is the quirky indie pop-loving, fem-fronted Brand Violet. Here presenting their Sororicide video, they never fail to entertain, especially when the vid here teems with both bloody vampires and a few of The Suicide Girls for erotic measure - and, er.. pleasure. Their fab Gata Blanca tune is also featured. The other five acts on offer are Thumpermonkey, The Milburns, Telford Mining Disaster, The Henderson Shatners and - last but not least - the weird Finnish-Swedish outfit So Long, Post Office. As if such band names aren't coolly original enough, just wait for the music, with each act having two of their tracks included. Thumpermonkey might well have the coolest tune present with the tongue-in-cheek I Am Han Solo, Frozen In Carbonite, before The Milburns deliver a likeable slap of Country-pop. The Telford Mining Disaster is perhaps the most interesting band of all, as Hills Belles hears a beautiful banjo-based instrumental bring whimsical bluegrass music to the fore. If only more record labels diversified in this manner and took wildly different types of bands on their books. It certainly sounds to have done Tapewyrm no harm. 8/10
