A versatile singer and songwriter, HL Tapley has been making music and writing songs since he got his first guitar. The debut of his first CD, “SOMETHING DIFFERENT” is the fulfillment of a life dream. Howard's desire is to entertain, but what’s more important to him is taking the listener to a better understanding of Christ. The message of “SOMETHING DIFFERENT” is this; forgiveness, joy, and eternal life are the gifts that God offers to all of us.
Howard has performed solo and as a member of several different vocal groups and bands over the years. Howard studied music at John Wesley College in Owosso MI and performed at area churches and coffee houses before joining his first country band in the early 80s. H. L and his friend Del York, another gifted singer/songwriter, formed The Wild Oats Band in 1981 and played clubs around the Detroit Area for the next few years. H.L. says, "The Wild Oats Band was where I really learned to write songs and to play the guitar." After the break up of the Wild Oats Band in 1986, HL found work with other bands around the area but found that performing cover tunes was not as thrilling as performing original songs.
In 1989 he came to a place in his life where he realized he needed to let God have control of this very important area of his life. For the next 5 years HL spent his time perfecting his skill as a songwriter. In 1995 HL began performing these songs and pitching them to artists in Nashville. With support from Family, Friends and Fans HL recorded 10 of his songs which became the Something Different CD. The lyrics to songs like FORGIVEN and THE PROMISE will touch your heart, bring tears to your eyes, and remind you there is joy in the Lord. Songs like HEART AS HARD AS STEEL and SOMETHING DIFFERENT demonstrate how well he can incorporate the Gospel message in a country song.
Howard’s goal is to write and perform songs that integrate Christian values into his songs in an effort to encourage us all to be the best we can be. As a performer and songwriter, H.L. Tapley is striving to make a difference in this world through the medium of music.
Fans of Paul Oversteet and Randy Travis will really enjoy Something Different by H.L. Tapley.

How unique! Country music with a Christian theme!!
author: Karen S
I was very pleasantly surprised by two things with this CD:
#1) hearing country music with a Christian message (how unique!) and #2) finding myself listening to it over and over (and for me, not the biggest country music fan, this was indeed a surprise!)
But what most impressed me were the beautiful and insightful lyrics. HL you are truly blessed with a great talent in songwriting!
I loved everything about this CD and I am anxious to hear more! You definitely have a BIG fan in me, HL!!!

Easy to listen to Artist
author: Dave Peters
Howard Tapley,
This is a very easy listening album, which is radio friendly and up front, I have notice nerves in your voice, you need to just relax when you are singing to a mike, and this is not easy, I find that when you have an audiance, you can feel the vibes coming from them, but in a studio it is very differant, it's like doing an interview over the phone when you have never done it before, all your interviews have been face to face, and you can feel the vibes from the artist. This is the same as being in a studio, you have some great christian songs here and you will go along way, expect some great airplay worldwide, and wake up Nashville with their Rock Country if you can call it country music, I wonder at times, we have the same problem here in Australia, with ABC & EMI as the main contenders in the country music arena. We are finding that country music needs to rebirth itself, as it's more rock than country, Howard stay the way you are, you have a great voice, a little more tuning up with uptempo songs with some oomp, itto your style and you will make Nashville sit up and take notice where you are coming from.
Great album Howard.

One of a Kind CD
author: Gene
Have you listened to country radio recently? If you have then I am sure you have noticed the number of songs that express the artists Christian faith. Josh Turner's Long Black Train, Randy Travis's Three Wooden Crosses and Buddy Guy's Help Pour Out the Rain are just a few of the great country songs that have climbed the charts that contain a strong faith based message. It hasn't always been like this. In 1990 H L Tapley began telling people in the Nashville music industry that Country music needed to get back to its Christian roots and presented songs like Something Different, Brand New Man and Heart as Hard as Steel to many of the then top country artists. At the time the current trend in country music was dance mix music like Boot Scootin' Boogie by Brooks and Dunn and Honky Tonk Attitude by Joe Diffie. The gate keepers in Nashville told HL that his songs were good songs but that a secular listening audience would not be interested in country music with a Christian message. After a couple of years of trying to convince everyone that faith based country music was where the genre was headed he decided to record the songs himself as an independent artist. Today Joe Diffie is singing Stronger than Nails and Brooks and Dunn are singing Red Dirt Road. Both songs that show a strong Christian influence. It's safe to say that that HL Tapley's CD Something Different was one of the first CDs of the genre. Take a listen to the CD that helped start it all.
