Album Notes

TARTANIC is a band on the edge that fills a much needed niche in Celtic music performance, taking tunes out of the session and into the sensational with their own brand of humor and theatrics. This is not just music...this is an interactive spectacle brought to you by...
MEN WITHOUT PANTS!

Even the strict laws of the Fire Department cannot hold TARTANIC at bay as they take live performance to heart and create a high-energy pulse at 120 beats per minute and beyond. Celtic music from Scotland, Brittany and original contemporary compositions is melded with rhythms from around the world and propelled into the musical world of the future. Mixing the time-honored traditions of the Great Highland Bagpipes with a bevy of drums featuring world percussion from Arabia, Africa and America, TARTANIC has produced a musical fusion which is nothing short of EXPLOSIVE

ABOUT THE CD:

With "UNSTOPPABLE" Tartanic goes "outside of the bag" and takes the bagpipes into more of the modern realm of music. This time they have mixed in Punk, Funk, Techno, Hip Hop and some New Orleans Second Line parade grooves into their music, as well as added spoken word from poetic greats like Robert Burns and Yeats. As if that was not enough, they then put the Great Highland Bagpipes through Delay, Distortion and even a Leslie cabinet. You can also hear some bits of the cover songs from their live show: "Smoke on the Water", "If You Think I'm Sexy","Blister In the Sun" as well as some Nirvana and Guns 'n ' Roses .....on the Bagpipes.

UNSTOPPABLE is truly a well done and artistic sonic adventure that exists sometimes at the edge of music and well into the Twilight Zone. Everything is possible and is mixed in to this production. There are times that it seems they are even probing into Eastern Mystic territory, and I don't mean New York. From the second you put it into your player with their "Static Emissions" to their ending with the "Hendrix Mix" of "Amazing Grace" (they put the Pipes through the same type of distortion that Jimi Hendrix used in his great guitar homage) you will be sure to have your mind kicked open from the expectation of what a Bagpipe and Drum CD is. Instead, in their newest production Tartanic has captured the magic of their live shows on an Audio CD. It's what they do best.....theatre of the mind utilizing their awesome bagpipe and drum music as the vehicle to take you somewhere else entirely. What an accomplishment.

what people are saying:

“I heard the opening strains of Queen’s “We will Rock You” ............ Never having heard you guys actually do that one, of course I headed over to the Tartanic show so I could hear that one for myself”...........“Just wanted to say that I hope you guys come back to the Southern California Renaissance Faire next year. ......one of the things I LOVE about your shows is that you ad-lib every show,”
- Mike, CA May ‘07

“I rolled down my windows, turned up the bagpipes and I was getting all sorts of strange looks, so I just hit the gas and turned up the bass......!”
-Carol Nelsen, AZ April 23 2007

“I have enjoyed your shows at Bristol last year and this year. In fact,
my camera was absconded with and used as a prop in the holy drummer skit.
It provided an extra joke because it had a zoom lens and the joke was made that it took such a long lens to make an adequate photo of what lie behind the sporran. Well, the clorox worked and all is well with the camera. “
-Paul Karr, Bristol, WI July 2007

“...I lost 70 pounds listening to Tartanic!”
- Karen, Bristol, WI July ’07

“Unstoppable Rocks!”

“Gents,

I caught your first show of the day at the Bristol Ren
Faire this morning and bought "Unstoppable" after
being told of the "Hendrix Mix" of Amazing Grace and
that it is not solely traditional music.

I played the CD tonight and my first thought was while
I enjoy traditional Scottish music as much as the next
guy, it's great to know that you're treating the
bagpipes as a living instrument relevant to modern
music and not some dusty museum piece to be trotted
out whenever one wants to evoke the 18th century.
This is not to belittle bands like xxx xxxxxx xx xxx xxxx xxxxxxxxx but "Unstoppable" is just so different
and I thoroughly enjoyed it and will continue to do
so.

Thank you for the hilarious show this morning and for
putting out such a great CD! Best of luck on your
travels and hopefully see you back in Chicago soon or
at Bristol next year.”

-Joe P. Kenosha WI Aug 2007

- Norma, Livonia, MI Aug. 2007

Sexiest Tartanic Album Yet!!!
author: Sweet Dancer
I was at the show you recorded for your live CD at the Detroit Highland Games, and it came as no surprise when you brought down the house and played 2 encores! I bought Unstoppable after the show and it blew me away! I love all my Tartanic albums but the rock filters and distorted bagpipes make this my favorite by far. Happy to see the rumors of the band's demise are untrue!
