Album Notes

Barry & Holly Tashian are duet singers, songwriters and touring musicians. They have performed and recorded together since 1972 and continue to perform together as a duo, a trio (with bass) or a foursome (with mandolin/fiddle).
The Tashians have recorded seven albums (three on Rounder Records with producer Jim Rooney) since 1989. In 1994 their album “Straw into Gold” was awarded Country Album of the Year (NAIRD). And in 1998 their album, “Harmony” was nominated for Bluegrass Album of the Year by the Nashville Music Awards. They have performed together on numerous TV shows (Grand Ol’ Opry Live) and radio shows (A Prairie Home Companion) and festivals worldwide.
As songwriters, Barry and Holly have written for Kenny Rogers, Solomon Burke, Ty England, Daniel O’Donnell, The Nashville Bluegrass Band, Roland White, Kate Brislin and Jody Stecher, and many others.
Barry first won national attention with his legendary rock group, The Remains, recording an album on Epic Records at age 19 when the band appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and Hullabaloo. In 1966 The Remains toured with the Beatles, as the opening act on The Beatles' North American tour.
From 1980-1989, Barry was a member of Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band, appearing on countless television and radio shows as vocalist and guitarist. He recorded 10 albums with Emmylou Harris during this period. Before that, he recorded with country rock innovator Gram Parsons on Gram's debut album "GP".
Barry and Holly have recorded with Tom Paxton, Charlie Louvin, Nanci Griffith, Iris DeMent, Suzy Bogguss, and Delia Bell.

REVIEWS

Still producing great harmonies after all these years!
author: Steve Ramm
Barry and Holly have been making recorded music for over 40 years now and they are still making new music in the old style they are best known for. This CD is no exception. Based in Nashville, they have access to some excellent session musicians to add special touches to their songs. Matt Combs fiddle really adds that western swing touch to the five tracks he appears on and string bass player Ross Sermons is on every track providing the rhythm line. Barry and Holly both play guitar so I can’t always tell who is playing on which song. As for the vocals, Barry gets the solo lead on the bulk of the songs though Holly goes it alone on “Worry Doesn’t Worry Me”, an upbeat swing-style song for these hard times. “Harmony” was not only the title for their award –nominated 1998 album, but it’s their email address as well. It’s no wonder, because many of the tracks (“The Promise”; “Sail Away”) have them blending their voices. Barry composed eight of the 11 songs and all are in styles similar to their late 20th Century work. This is comforting for those who remember the acoustic folk period of the 1970s. My favorite track is the closer: the Doc Pomus penned “Boogie Woogie Country Girl” – a real toe-tapper with some nice guitar work. (Is that Barry or Holly?) If you were a Barry and Holly fan years ago, you’ll find that they are just as consistent as they’ve ever been. Steve Ramm “Anything Phonographic”
