sit back.....listen....taste 80 minutes of top funky sounds from the cream of the u.k. underground live club scene c/o this beautifully eclectic compilation.....
.......another essential CD release from Chocolate Fireguard, the pioneering independent record label set up in Yorkshire, UK by Kava Kava front man Pat Fulgoni. Check out www.chocolatefireguard.com and www.myspace.com/chocolatefireguardmusic for more info..................
Volume 2 in this series was chosen as one of only 8 imports in the British Phonographic Industry's "Best Of British" campaign in Virgin Megastores USA - along with many other excellent Chocolate Fireguard products, it's also available here!
Most of this selection have played at Glastonbury Festival, UK.
Some UK press:
The Wire: "a manifesto for working dance units who've twigged the sarcastic "launch the rocket" melodrama required for on stage funk...in this zone the dance imperative feels liberating rather than restrictive...the spirit of 'top that' invention which convulsed bigband jazz in the late 1920s.....these groups have done their homework and now want to knock you sideways with their discoveries"
London Student: "fame being a dodgy barometer of quality this isn't necessarily a bad thing... discovering (this) funky bunch is fantastic..."
City Lights: "Pure Genius! 17 tracks of funk and attitude. I have fallen in love with this album already. Beautiful grooves to spend your winter nights with. Go out and buy."
Record Collector: "Quality....Yorkshire independent Chocolate Fireguard, seem to be carving a sweet little niche for themselves"
Cool and Strange Music: "downright amazing"
Notes:
turn it up! at last an honest collection of deep, fresh, funky minds far away from the clutches of planet bland. sit back, listen and taste the truth, a funky chill all mashed up and full of soul. we're talking bands for the love of it dueling breaks, hip hop, drum'n'bass, trip hop, divas, drum'n'space, jazz funk, rap, space funk, instrumentals, gospel influences. diverse and leftfield, downtempo, uptempo and funky. pushing back the boundaries live in sweaty funk joints, ripping it up at festivals across europe, and then grafting hard in underground studios from cardiff right up to newcastle, unified with a nod and a wink to the mothership! if you wanna know what's going on in the funky underground then look no further.......
features:
the bluefoot project, kava kava, acetate, shod, headbound, ism, the future shock, dubmerge, quattro, huggy, yakboy, gator, marineville, nine invisibles, blinders, spare rib, taxi..... groovy funky minds with diverse influences fusing modern flavours and live old school
Contains some real trainspotting gems for the passionate music collector......
Kava Kava's "Funked Up and Freaked Out" is a live favourite, supported by the likes of Freddy Fresh (no 1 in his chart, NME) -check out their album "Maui"
Acetate (emotif/flex) provides an exclusive monster drum'n'bass tune "Platinum"
Shod's singer is none other than Groove Armada collaborator Rachel Foster (Weekend Players) in her natural world/jazz environment
"All Will Be Well" early exclusive tune from hotly tipped outfit The Bluefoot Project (check out their debut album "Brave")

free your funky mind and your ass will follow........
author: jenni
ism are naughty boys with their dirty phuturistic breaks, kava kava
deserve a spanking for their cheeky "funked up and freaked out",
dubmerge keep up the pressure with some oily rap tinged hip hop...every track has an angle, unique and beautiful.....you've got some timeless moments here from an all UK line up ranging from jazz funk, drum'n'bass, trip hop, global. Its all here. While the mainstream bottles it, compresses it, messes with it, long live this funky underground! so free your funky mind and your ass will follow........
