Tatiana Nicole Del Toro was THE best female singer of season 8 (or any other season, for that matter) and SHOULD have been in the top 10 (and the top 5...and the top 2...hmmm...well, she was at least redeemed, having won the well-deserved "Outstanding Female" award on the 5/20/09 finale, having impressively advanced to the top 17 [out of literally 100,000's of would-be hopefuls]after having been, as Paula Abdul herself exclaimed, "the most talked about contestant" between Jan-March 2009 (her original run on the show, seen by many millions of people: from stunning audition, to Hollywood week, to the top 36, and, ultimately, to the Wild Card/ top 17 round on 3/5/09). Tatiana is a terrific, one-of-a-kind singer with a great range and an incredible warmth to her lower range (she's also supermodel pretty, funny, and talented in other areas, but I digress. It is truly a tragedy that Idol chose to accent her hilarious laugh and sometimes "zany" personality with constant, repetitive editing, for what was lost was her chance to advance even further).
Regarding this release, her debut cd (apparently the one given to the Idol judges during her July 2008 audition [not broadcast until January 2009]), we have an amazing debut from not just a beautiful singer, but a great ARTIST, as well (something very few Idols truly are: yeah, it's one thing to sing someone ELSE's SONG, but can you write great songs and play guitar well, too?).
Notwithstanding some minor production issues (keep in mind, this is NOT a Rick Rubin, million-dollar production), this is a most impressive debut, fully deserving the 5 out of 5 stars. Tatiana sings like an angel and writes truly remarkable, memorable, progressive/pop songs that actually span several genres; truly eclectic. And, considering the rarity and quality of the material, the length of the cd, and the number of all-original songs, you are truly getting alot of value for your money.
Hey, Paula Abdul spoke for all the judges (and millions of Tatiana's fans) when she said that "we think you're a brilliant singer." Paula just missed one item: Tatiana is a brilliant SONGWRITER, too, as this cd demonstrates.
To put it more succinctly: BUY THIS CD ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!! :o)
