David Chong is the lead vocalist and founder of Tatu Rei. David grew up in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte. David’s musical experience includes being one of the main soloists with the Brazilian vocal ensemble Borboleta and has performed and recorded with guitarist Doug de Vries.

John Moore plays percussion and writes much of the original music played by Tatu Rei. He has played percussion in Latin and Brazilian groups since living in Brazil during the late 80’s as well as with the Melbourne Samba School. John studied atabaque and pandeiro in Bahia, Brazil. On returning to Melbourne John continued his musical studies with Ray Pereira.

Neda Rahmani plays percussion for Tatu Rei. She is a fulltime musician and plays in other Australian touring and recording acts such as Tumbarumba, Limestone (Joe Camilleri), Bomba, Red Eyes & D’affix. Neda regards Brazil as her most important musical influence.

Nick Carver plays double bass for Tatu Rei. He performs in a vast array of ensembles, including; The Object-Lesson, The Manny Fox Hangman’s Club, Hazel Brown Band & The Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra. Nick’s passion for playing many different styles of music brought him to Tatu Rei in 2007.

Nathan Slater plays guitar for Tatu Rei. He has studied with some of the finest guitarists in Australia, including Greg Stott and Mike Price (Canberra School of Music), Geoff Hughes (Victorian College of the Arts), Ben Hauptmann, Carl Dewhurst, Stephen Magnusson and Peter O’Mara. Nathan has further enriched his studies with famed Flamenco guitarist Richard Tedesco and Jazz/Brazillian performer, Doug De Vries.
