Listening to \"lady\", i’m laying on my back, arms crossed behind my head, on a grassy hill that overlooks the Bay. My eyes are closed. The sun is bearing down on my fleshy lids and the light is causing little images to form. Petite figures of trees and children and balloons and bells and singing and dancing, like little paper cutouts, emerge from my periphery. The ones that we marveled at, jumping out of our pop-up books, as children. But the characters I see mustn’t be confined to the second dimension. they are soft, they are round. they are palpable and faceted. these are the images of childhood, of memories, of bruises and of smiles, since pruned and prized.

TaughtMe is the musical project of Blake Henderson, who writes, performs and records all of his own material. Henderson has a delicate reverence for nostalgia and of placing the most naked and sincere reminiscences on display, where the listener can walk amongst them, alongside them, behind them, and take it all in as a breath. i almost feel intrusive, eavesdropping, as i happen upon the pleading monologues in tracks like ‘Stranger Struggle,’ and ‘Heaviest.’ Blake doesn’t hide behind the guise of convolution or cryptology. He begs to be understood. In a world where honesty and transparency are failing currencies, a voice like his simply cannot go unnoticed |…|
