Album Notes

Taylor Brown is a Quaker raised Philadelphia native with strong roots in blues, folk and rock music. Taylor has been touring the country with folk singer Kate Taylor (sister of James Taylor) since 2003 and has appeared with Dar Williams, Carly Simon, Levon Helm and many others.
"Notebook" is a double CD collection with 14 of Taylor's original songs and 2 covers ('Ain't No Lie' and 'Trouble in Mind'). Co-producer Gordon Millsaps decided that the first disc would be more filled out and full band sounding, while the second disc would be very intimate and acoustic. Nearly every take from the CD is 'live performance style' with minimal overdubs. The jazz training of percussionist Rigel Byrum-Ridge and bassist Andrew Lipow adds a whole other dimension to Taylor's sound. "Notebook" is the result of hard work and spontaneous musical performance.

This incredible CD blends a classic blues sound with an original dash of rock and roll. With a host of great songs, "Scarlet" and "October Sky" are two stand outs, this CD makes it feel like there is a party in your ears and everyone is invited. Beautifully written and wonderfully performed, "Notebook" is a great buy.

Finally, kids from the younger generation has gotten it right.
author: Bruce Dickinson
The Taylor Brown Trio's "Notebook" is a excellent mix of soft folk and soulful blues. It is refreshing to see younger people venture into the roots of rock n' roll while also creating their own unique sound. A must have for any car CD player to sing loudly while no one is looking.
