RECENT REVIEWS OF CD-
"Tom Ball brings very inventive and fresh tunes to the table. His playing creates images of Chuck Mangione and his relaxed character shows through completely."
- Adam Frey, euphonium soloist (http://www.euphonium.com)

"I really, REALLY, like Tom Ball's new jazz euphonium CD. This is straight-ahead, nailed to the wall main-stream jazz as it should be! Very, VERY, tasty playing with terrific ideas and a great solid euphonium sound. My first thought was this is Gus Mancuso fifty years later!! Grab a copy of this as soon as you can ... you gotta hear it!!!"

From all of us who had to learn to play trombone to be in the jazz band - THANK GOD FOR TOM BALL! This proves that the Euphonium is the classiest member of the low brass family.

  • finally beautifull jazz on euphonium
    author: john

I also play euphonium en like the play alongs whit jazz on the euphonium. This a prove that jazz also can be played on euphonium just like chuck mangione (south american jazz rock). Go and bring it to the world and start in the netherlands europe. Also other sort of music you can play on a euphonium, be creatif and a new sort of instrument is there in the world of popular music

  • Very cool with the Euphonium as lead instrument!

I was searching the net for euphonium websites when i found this cd. I ordered it the same night and when it came in the mail after a few days it was even better then I had expected. I am proud to have this in my euphonium cd collection.

I saw Ball at the ITEC conference in Denver last week and all I can say is WOW! This album is the definition of jazz. I'm so glad it won the competition. Get it now before it sells out again.

  • Jazz Euphonium As It Should Be Done
author: David Werden, U. of MN, www.dwerden.com

A student of mine at the University of Minnesota (himself a fine jazz player) heard Tom Ball first-hand and said that Tom did jazz euphonium the way it should be done. I agree! His style fits the horn perfectly. I love his concept and his ideas. As far as his chosen notes (ad libs) are concerned, he is playing very "tasty" jazz, and I would have enjoyed the same notes coming from a flugel or sax. But he also fits it all elegantly into his solid euphonium sound and style. The group on this album is wonderful -- very tight rhythm and fine solos by pianist Vlad Girshevich. Eric Thorin (bass) and Ben Makinen (drums/percussion) provide just the right foundation for every song. All the compositions are by Tom Ball, and I found them fresh and interesting. There was a fine variety of song styles, and each one was a pleasure to hear. Congratulations!

  • Euphonium Players- This is a Must Listen!
    author: Ethan C

This Cd is amazing! Not only does it add new life to the Jazz scene, it also acts as an inspiration for me, a student of Tom, to keep working on my Euphonium technique and someday be able to jam like this. This is an excellent Cd for anyone is interested in jazz... Good luck in the future!

  • Euphonium players->check it out
    author: Maximilian H.

I always thought euphonium players had to learn trombone to improvise well. This cd is MUSIC to my ears, and it is good to know that people are making REALLY cool music on this so called non-jazz instrument. I'm a music education-euphonium major at UNT, but I also have always liked the idea of improvised music. After listening to some of your cd clips, I just want to say I really like it! Thanks for putting it out there!

  • Very smooth, soulful, mature ideas that come across effortlessly.
    author: John

This CD is very refreshing to listen to. The tunes are innovative and well executed. Ball has has a great sound that is perfect for jazz and his ideas are smooth, soulful, and mature. The rhythm section is great, well-balanced, and knows exactly what to do and when to do it. This CD should do really well. The music and musicianship is too high quality for it not to do extremely well.

  • Very tasty. Smooth, rich, playful and sophisticated.
    author: Mr Bob

I first listened to this CD a few weeks ago and have gone back to it time and time again. It is extremely tasty jazz. The Euphonium sound is smoother than a trombone and Tom's talent shine's through. I find it hard to say anything negative about this music. The flavorful percussion, piano and bass blend perfectly. The recording is superb and it changes the whole mood of my office when I put it on (and that's a good thing!)

  • Whoa Dog!! This disc SMOKES!! FRESH and ORIGINAL, these cats GROOVE HARD!!
    author: Bmakin Music

Whoa Dog!! This disc SMOKES!! FRESH and ORIGINAL, these CATS GROOVE HARD!! Truely a pleasure to hear fantastic original music being written and performed by today's JAZZ GIANTS. The Latin twist is FUNKY. Ball's ballad, With Grace, is played with more FEELING and TASTE than I've heard from any other contemporary jazz musicians on THE SCENE. This CD will do justice in anyone's collection.
