Album Notes

"The Tom Borling BeBop Band Plays the Music of Eddie Lewis" features nine compositions by Eddie Lewis, whose original songs form the core of the band's repertoire. His music is melodic mainstream modern jazz that is high energy, but very listenable.

The Tom Borling BeBop Band was formed by six top Houston freelancers in 1992 and has been rehearsing and performing in Houston ever since. It has the same instrumentation as the Art Blakey sextet-three horns and rhythm, and originally started playing in that style-New York Hard Bop. As the group evolved, rehearsing every week, the group's trumpeter Eddie Lewis started to write for the band, changing its direction to fresher, brighter, more listenable sound.

The group features some of Houston's top freelance musicians, including saxophonist David Caceres, who has several solo albums to his credit. We at the TBBB know jazz lovers will enjoy our group's fresh, bright sound.
